Inactiveok after 2 more weeks on the prilosec with caracream things are still not much better even on a higher dose

She is still clearly in pain and not feeding great, i have given up on solids for the moment as this is making it worse.
I’m tempted to try and get the prevacid from the dr but worried incase it doesn’t help, so i have a few questions for those who use it!!
1) I thinking of either getting capsules to compound with caracream (which i hope will taste better but its a pain importing the stuff from the USA) or solable tabs, which is better or do they both work well?
2) If it takes 2 weeks for the prevacid to kick in what to i give her for those 2 weeks as it will be like she is on no meds!!
3) What if this doesn’t work, i’m scared!!!! anyone find it didn’t work for them?
I’m so muddled up and confused i just want her to feel better

Keymasterif you’re now getting caracream made at the pharmacy perhaps they’re not doing it correctly- if you want ot stay with caracream a very good option is to just mix it yourself…
if you switch to the solutabs, or make any switch actually from one form of PPI or one kind of PPI to another, you don’t have to wait the full time period for it to become effective bcse it’s already in the system…maybe maybe it would be a few days for the body to adjust but it’s nothing like the initial time period of just starting a PPI…
could it be her formula/milk? what does she drink again?
oh yeah, in the meantime ask about carafate- I think it’s called the same in the UK- I just googled it- also known as Suclcralfate
it’s not a long-term solution by any means, it’s more like a band-aid type solution, but when things were really bad w/ Jonah we gave it to him at night- it’s like a teflon coating for the esophogus and stomach- not REALLY teflon, LOL, but that’s what it does…you have to space it apart from other meds- not sure how many hours, etc- ask the pharmacist if you get it…

InactiveI’m mixing the caracream myself! so i think i’m doing it right!!
thats good i won’t have to wait another 2 weeks! for it to work.
She is currently breastfed and i am on a dairy/soya free diet which i’m unsure is helping yet??! I will try and get some of that stuff tomorrow from the chemist.

InactiveNatalie,
I feel your pain, trust me!!! When you say a “higher dose”, do you mean 20 mg/day, or did you go higher? Also, are you giving it as one or two doses? You might want to play around with this. As for 20 mg/day, Hailey only started getting some relief at 30mg prevacid, and there are other babies who have had to go higher than that up to 40 mg (of omeprazole).
Yes, prevacid tastes better. Solutabs are easy to give b/c they don’t taste bad and you don’t have to give much liquid. But if Kaylee is a gagger, then she might have some trouble with the texture. Really, the caracream is likely to be more effective, in that you won’t have to worry about timing meals and feeds, or empty stomachs or anything like that. Joel also told me that a buffered suspension also neutralizes any acid that may be present in the stomach at the time the drug is given, so that’s also an added bonus. But many babies have done well on solutabs as well… I really think it’s an issue of trial and error as they’re all so different, and also getting the dose right for Kaylee.
Like Laura said, there isn’t a 2 week period to kick in since she’s already on a PPI.
If a good dose of prevacid given properly doesn’t work, then there have been other moms who have used protonix. I don’t know too much about it, but it’s an option.
As for the soy/dairy issue, I never did it, but is that the same as the elimination diet? Also, I’ve heard people talking about “hidden” dairy and soy, so those can also be triggers.
Good luck. I hope that something works soon.

Inactivethe dr put her on 20mg 1 month ago but as things weren’t looking much better after this time i decided to try her on 30mg and she has been on this for 6 days but it seems worse!!! Is that even possible

It’s so hard to tell why it has suddenly got bad again? she seems to have a few ‘good’ days (compared to the bad ones anyway) and then it all goes bad again.
The last 3 days she has been back to normal, not sleeping good, not feeding good, moaning/crying all day.
I got her weighed yesterday and she is still putting on weight although it has slowed down, she is now 16lbs and nearly 7 months old.
