Anyone have any experience with these type of feeding tubes? Aidan had to have one put in last week when they did her fundo, and so, I’m just curious.

Some surgeons/GI put in button directly and others do a PEG and then switch to a button – we are having ours put in mid November… but essentially, it is just tube feeding, so if you have any questions, let us know. Heather and I both have tube fed babies and there are others that come by less regularly that also do

At first I was really nervous about it, but now using it (just for meds and to relieve gas), it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal. We go for a follow up in 3 weeks, and if she hasn’t put on some pounds, then we have to start using the button for supplementation. Do you use a pump for your tube feedings? They gave us a pump that would administer the feeding for us.

Glad that you are getting used to it – for us, hte tube in itself was not a challenge (other than some granulation tissue) – it was more getting a balance between how much to feed him through the tube and how quickly (Matthew could not tolerate quick feedings for a while and he vomitted a lot for a few months). Now, we don’t really use the pump anymore – i jsut bolus feed him with a 60ml syringe, but when he is sick, i still have to have him on the pump on continous feeds or he will vomit.
Hope the fundo is so good she does not need to be tube-fed!

My son has a G-tube Button (Mic Key). He’s had it since he was 4 months (before that he had an NG tube). He eats very little orally, so we give him most of his food through his g-tube. We bolus during the day and we use the pump at night (mainly just to get some extra calories in him).Good luck! Hopefully Aiden will be able to gain some weight so you won’t have to feed her that way at least.

Just make sure you keep the area clean and dry.. If it does not stay completly dry my son has developed blisters looking things around his button.. They say they are common but it looks like it has to hurt.. He doesn’t act like it though.. Hope that helps.. Good Luck!
