InactiveI was excited to have gotten Jacob on the upped dose of Prevacid – thought it would be a miracle cure! Not so much! We had a few good days, and then yesetrday and the day/nights before were plain old miserable (for us all, but especially him). I would like to wake up just ONE morning without sobbing with exhaustion. I feel like this is never going to end. I know you all have been there before, but it is really getting to me. I even think it is giving me mild anxiety attacks….it is making me nuts.
SO apparently we will be moving onto a formula change…I have decided on Alimentum. My doctor told me to just switch him cold turkey, and some of you have said not to do so. If I gradually introduce the new formula, can someone give me an idea of the best way to do that?
Thank you!

KeymasterI have such a hard time keeping track of all these GERDlings
– could you put info in your signature so I don’t have to bother you with lots of questions
? just go to the upper right hand corner of the page and click on ‘settings’ then I think ‘profile’ is next, then ‘signature’ thanks
!About formula switch: I’ve read everything from just doing it one ounce at a time (making a bottle of the ‘old’ formula and adding one ounce of the new & then over a period of time adding more of the new until the bottle is completely just made of hte new formula) to doing it cold turkey…

InactiveI always switched Abby cold turkey. Even from Nutramigen to Neocate. I just wanted the new formula in her ASAP. I always thought it was worth a try then if she didn’t like the taste I would just go gradually. But she never had a problem. It also depends on how old your ds is. The younger ones make the switch easier. I hope you find something that helps. The formula change really helped Abby, especially the Neocate. Make sure you try on for at least 2wks. Abby couldn’t tolerate Alimentum and was extermely fussy but she did better on the Nutramigen. Every baby is different.

InactiveHi. We’ll see if my siganture shows up. I just did that – sorry! I am a little slow (lack of sleep).

Jacob is on 30mg of the Prevacid solutabs. I was crushing them (oops) and recently started (one week ago today) doing it correctly…disolving in a bit of water and giving to him once in the morning (15mg) and once at night (15mg). I know it has technically only been a week since he has been on the upped dose, since I was giving it wrong. At this point it seems we will have one good day, followed by two plus bad ones….that’s where we are. This is unbelievably frustrating! Does it sound like I am doing it correctly?

InactiveThat is how Abby takes her Prevacid. Are you giving it to him on an empty stomach and waiting 30mins after before feeding? Is he eating through the night? Owen’s Mumma told me that Chad from Marci-Kids said if you are giving a PPI twice per day to give it at 7am and 3pm. Because it eliminated from their system in 6hrs. so by giving it to them at these times it covers them throughout the day. Food is what activates the acid producing pumps so if they aren’t eating after 9pm they won’t be active at night. I had never thought of that, makes sense. But if they are eating after 9pm then they need an evening dose. You could also try breaking it up into 3 doses to see if that helps.
