Inactivethat does sound really low, I think I did a search once about zantac doseing on here and found a thread that gave the weights/doses. I think I remember one that said 5 mls a day for a 16 lb baby so yeah 4 for a 22 lb baby would seem low to me 2!!!! I hope he’s feeling better!!!

Inactive22 x 2.2= 10 kilos is what he weighs
The working dosage of Zantac is 5 to 10 mgs. per kilo.
I think Zantac is 15mgs per kilo in the syrup. So he is getting 30mgs. daily.
On the low side it would 50 mg. daily and on the high side it would be 100 mg. daily.
I don’t know if they have a max dose that they give but it does sound like he could use a higher dose.

InactiveYeh, the syrup is 15 mgs of zantac in 1 ml of syrup (150mgs in 10mls).
So he could be having say 2 ml three times a day to be in the right dosage range (that would be 90mgs).
But there is a lot of alcohol in Zantac syrup- at least the one in Aus- for a baby anyway. You can get it in other forms, like effervesent tablets minus the alcohol.

InactiveSorry to hear he’s having problems again. I don’t know much about zantac dosing. Hope something works for you soon.

InactiveThanks for figuring out the dose for me-I actually tried but kinda got lost

Trace-He had stopped refluxing for a while but it started again around 16 mths old. I am holding off on a ppi (especially protonix b/c it is so much $$) until we have to use it. We go to his ped gi in about 10 days so I will talk to him about what we need to do from here.
Therese-I was also wondering about the alcohol in it being not such a great thing. I didn’t know they made it in other forms though-Thanks!
Lori-How is Hailey doing? Hopefully better lately!

InactiveIf you try the effervesent tablets, I make sure all the bubles are gone so as not to increase gas, probably not such an issue with toddlers on solids.

Keymasterwelcome!
from my welcome/intro: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853&am p;PN=1
there are links to info about zantac dosing (see below).
I’ll do the calculations for you
:she’s 10 & 1/2 lbs. divide by 2.2 to ger kilos.
10.5 divided by 2.2 = 4.8kilos
zantac dose is 5-10mgs per kilo
I’ll calculate for the highest dose she can have a day:
4.8 x 10 = 48mgs total per day of zantac
zantac liquid is 15mgs per ml
so 48 divided by 15 = 3.2mls a day total a day of zantac
you divide this up into 3 doses, given during the course of the day:
so 1ml, 1ml & 1.2 mls
maybe giving the 1.2mls at night or whenever her ‘worse’ time is
