InactiveHello. I have a 3 month old little boy. He was diagosed with reflux about 2 months ago and is on previcid. He didn’t tolerate regular formula well so we went to soy. Until he became constipated recently and the Dr. then switched him to Alimentum. We are also thickening the bottles with cereal do to his recent increase in spitting up. Now he is vomiting about 2 or 3 hours after he eats. Its got a very foul odor and he often cries. I am not sure if its because it is hurting him or because it tastes bad. The amount seems to be increasing as well. Anyone having anything at all similar to this??? I don’t know what to do at this point. I swear we are at the Dr.’s office more often than anyone else! HELP!!!

Inactiveif it smellls acidic then the prevacid dose may be too low. is he in pain while or after eating?
you should read marci-kids.com as they have PPI dosing for infants, most doctors underdose PPI’s.
also, what form of prevacid is he on?November 14, 2006 at 12:27 am #17957Anonymous
InactiveWe have his previcid mixed at a compounding pharmacy. Its in a liquid form and only lasts 2 weeks and we have to get it refilled again. He gets 2.5 ml once a day. He has never really had any problem eating. I guess the part that concerns me the most is how long after he eats he is vomiting or spitting up. And the fact that its getting worse rather than better. He was waking every 1 to 2 hours until we put him on the alimentum. I don’t know…… I just want him to feel better. I have a 3 1/2 year old also that was on Nutramigen and rice cereal and previcid as well. But the combo worked wonders for him. Stopped vomiting alltogether. So this little guy is throwing me for a loop!

InactivePPI’s dont stop spit up, they block acid so it doesnt burn their throat. though that is an extremely low dose i would say to help with the pain.
do you think a PPI is necessary for him?
he just may need his stomach muscles to mature.many babies have delayed gastic emptying and they grow out of it eventually. is he gaining weight?nataliachick72006-11-14 0:31:35

InactiveI actually did wonder if he needed it. So about 2 weeks ago I stopped giving it to him for 3 days. He got much worse during that time so I started giving it to him again. I really don’t know what he needs. It just seems to change daily. So just when I think he is doing better something else happens.

InactiveYou know, I am not really sure. He was on Enfamil Gentlease for a month before we tried soy. He was really gassy but didn’t have any real issues with it. We only switched to soy to try to help with the gas.

InactiveWow. So now I am even more unsure. I will be calling the Dr. again in the morning and talking to her about everything I just read. Its not supposed to be this hard!
Thanks for all your help! I am going to try to get some sleep now before the little man wakes up! -
