InactiveSorry for the personal nature of this topic but was curious if any of you ladies have experience with Ortho Evra bc? This is the patch. I was on oral contraceptives and they did not seem to be working for me so I was switched to this today. I am supposed to pick up the prescription tonight but when researching on line about it, I saw some scary things (it apparently has 60% more estrogen than traditional pills so can cause more serious side effects like clotting, heart attack, etc.) and am now afraid to take it! I am on the pill not only for birth control but to keep my endometriosis at bay too so other methods like the diaphragm, tubal litigation are out. TIA.

InactiveI tried the patch a while back, probably 4 years at least, and it kept falling off, maybe they’ve improved it or maybe I just have patch proof skin (tried the smoking patch when I was a lot younger to quit, and that fell off 2!). Maybe it also matters where you put it? I always put mine on my arm, maybe there’s a better place?

InactiveHi Tiffany – I haven’t “talked” to you in forever!
Anyway, does that mean you can’t use an IUD either? Sorry, I’m not familiar with endometriosis so I’m not sure what does/doesn’t help…

KeymasterI don’t know anything about the patch.
the ‘tri’ kind of birth control pills made me wacko
. seriously.I’ve done fine with the ‘lighter’ ones like loestrin…these might not help your endometriosis though…

InactiveI was on the patch after Alexis and it worked great, I didn’t have any problems with it falling off. I tried going back on it after Taylor but Alexis thinks it is a great sticker and searches my body for it and takes it off and tries to put it on herself, so it is no go. Back on the pill for me which is not good since I always forget, just waiting for DH to have the BIG V done the beginning of next year!

Inactivetake a look at nuvaring. its low estrogen, but not ‘lo’. and its as safe as anything else on the market:

if you have any questions, let me know. i work for the company that developed and markets this. you could say birth control is my bread and butter these days.
(…well, that and antipsychotics…but that’s for another post…maybe the one on dealing with family over the holidaze)November 21, 2006 at 2:22 pm #18649Anonymous
InactiveLOL. In our house, reflux is enough birth control in and of itself!

InactiveI hear you Lori!
I did break down and put on the patch although I am not comfortable with it at all based on what I have read. I’m 35 and already at the age where I am at an increased risk with these things so I don’t need anything adding to it! I am going back tomorrow to meet with the nurse to see what other options there are. I really wish I could get off everything but don’t want to end up having anouther surgery for the endo. if I do!Laura, I need a hormonal method which prevents ovulation to keep the endo. under control so I don’t think the IUD would work for me. I know we do need to catch up. I keep meaning to write you and hope to soon!
Thanks Becky for the link. I have started to see the ring on TV. I will ask the nurse about it tomorrow. Oh and I probably need the antipsychotic drug too but that’s another story..

InactiveLOL laura I can’t take any kind of hormonal based birth coltrol ( I think this leaves my options at one of those iud things? not sure really) b/c I go seriously nutty, I can only guess how fun I’ll be when menopause hits!!!!!
-becky, gotta love those antipsychotics ( I take one ) but I wish they had a better name, I mean come on who wants to say I take the “not psycho” pill….maybe something more along the lines of….”calming relaxation”
