InactiveSo after being on real milk Isaac is not really wanting to have rice milk in large quantities. He will sip it here and there but thats it. I am using Rice Dream and I accidently got the vanilla flavor…..Is that bad? Also since they don’t get enough fat from rice milk how do you give them extra fat? The nutritionist suggested putting lots of “safe” butter and oil on his food so any other ideas?

InactiveThank you so much! I completely forgot about avacados!
What a great idea!November 24, 2006 at 9:02 pm #18897Anonymous
InactiveMaybe some flax seed oil. My kids all take it by spoon everyday. If he doesn’t like the taste and won’t take it that way, you can try adding it some to his foods. (You can’t cook with it though….I used to add it to their oatmeal evey moring).
Olive oil is a terrific, healthy fat. If he eats noodles you can toss them with some olive oil, or use it to cook whatever else he’s eating.
I hope he gets used to the Rice Milk. I’m sure the vanilla is probably fine, but maybe try the plain just to see if he may like it better. You never know.

InactiveWhat kind of olive oil would be a good one to try? I go to the olive oil aisle and there are so many different kinds-extra virgin, light flavor etc. lol I am so lost.
I will have to check into flax seed oil and avacado oil. They may be an easy way to add extra good fat to his food! Thanks!

InactiveI’m not really sure….I read once that there isn’t much difference between virgin, extra-virgin, etc. It is confusing, though. So many to choose from – even in this tiny town where choices are so limited. If light means less caories/fat, than I wouldn’t get that since he needs the calories.

InactiveI think the light and what not just refer to the color of the olive oil (I have an italian husband..so I need to know these things.
) As far as health benefits…extra virgin is supposed to be the best…also, my mom got me some grapeseed oil to try…it is supposed to be very healthy too and very light tasting. I don’t think the vanilla flavor rice milk should be a problem. My personal opinion is that vanilla tasted much better and more like real milk…maybe I have just forgotten what real milk tastes like (haha!) -
