InactiveI posted this in the MSPI forum, but thought I would try it here as well.
I just started the elimination diet last night as a last resort. I’m already starving! We aren’t close to a health food store, so my choices for food are limited. Does anyone have some good ideas for what I can eat? Our stores didn’t have free range turkey, so I’m just eating regular turkey, making sure there are no bad additives, of course, but I hope that’s okay. I’m also really hungry all the time, and there aren’t any choices for snacks. Are rice krispies okay for breakfast? I can’t figure out what else to eat then. I would love to hear some first hand experience with this from anyone who has gone through it lately. Thanks so much!!!

Inactivepears are a good snack option. Just buy them and cut them up and put them in baggies for when your going to go out. Also, I didn’t do the free range turkey either. For my veggies I would put a little oil in the pain and cook them that way. Not sure if I was even supposed to use oil, but I did.
I also felt like I was going to starve, but it is worth it. good luck.

InactiveI didn’t end up doing the elimination diet totally (just milk, soy, eggs, peanuts, citrus and tomoto) so first pat yourself on the back for this undertaking. I know when I did cut a ton of stuff out, I ate pears like crazy as well….and the funny thing is, that is my daughter’s favorite fruit right now.

InactiveDr. Sears Elim diet explanation is great. Laura’s link above has lots of great ideas, but might take a while to read. Not sure how you are doing this, but some things to eat:
Br. rice cooked in 1/2 water, 1/2 veggie stock with olive oil
steamed mild veggies– whatever Dr. sears mentions to begin with
Potatoes: I cut them into wedges, put olive oil, salt and pepper and bake at 400 for 30-40 mins (a whole cookie sheet)
hummus (the plain flavor, shold be chick peas (garbonzo beans), tahini, lemon and garlic as ingrediants and nothing you can’t pronounce
fruits that are approved
I did things a little backwards, but when trying to avoid dairy and soy I ate a lot of turkey/avacado and wheat bread sandwiches. And a lot of hummus and pickles (just to ahve a sharp flavor in my diet). After going gluten free we’ve had a lot of Gorilla Munch cereal, Amazon Flakes cereal, etc. If you are serious about the diet and it seems to help your lo, check into whether you have a relative or friend in an area with a good food market who could send you things. Or make a trip once a month and stock up. Where do you live? Before going gluten free I also ate a lot of Kashi oatmeal with flax meal on top. It was delicious! Once you can add back in eggs, I did a lot of eggs and spinach sauteed in olive oil. I just used olive oil to cook absolutely everything.
That should give you some ideas. Laura’s link really has the whole Kit-N-Kaboddle from all of us.
Just eat until you aren’t hungry and you’ll find eventually there are things to eat. It just may be very different from what you are used to eating. HANG IN THERE!December 6, 2006 at 10:14 am #19689Anonymous
InactiveThank you so much for these ideas! I hope I can start working stuff back in soon. My little one’s bowel movement smelled like turkey this morning! I hope that doesn’t mean he is having a problem digesting it..!
