InactiveOH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When it rains…it pours! Sarah has an ear infection and sinusitis which she has been taking amoxicillian and zyrtec for. I had a question about a possible stomach bug because of MAJOR diarrhea the past few days. My daycare provider has been through every sickness A-Z with her kids so I called her tonight to double check she didn’t think Sarah had the rotavirus or anything and just found out that her two year old son now has the CHICKEN POX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He broke out tonight but has probably been contagious for the past TWO days. I am so sick about this…what do I do??????????? I want to run into Sarah’s nursery and wake her up to inspect for spots…I want to scream!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

InactiveOh, Amy…I’m so sorry that Sarah’s going through all of this (and you too!) I hope she feels better soon. Please let us know how she’s doing. Good luck.

InactiveOh no! Poor little Sarah

My son Isaac caught chicken pox from his cousins when he was 12 mo. old, and it was no big deal – he just had two or three spots, and that was it, but I guess everyone reacts differently with it. I’ve heard it’s usually mild when babies get it. Hopefully that’s the case if Sarah gets it!Hope she feels better soon.

InactiveHeather – That makes me feel a little better to know that babies don’t generally get chicken pox as bad. I am hoping she doesn’t get it AT ALL…but I just don’t know how we can possibly dodge that bullet when she was at daycare with him for two days.
I need to just calm down…she doesn’t have it yet…maybe she won’t get it…deep breaths.
I am now without daycare for a few days AT LEAST. My mom can come Monday and Tuesday but if we can’t go to their house by then, I’ll be taking off work. *sigh*
I went to wal-mart tonight to get a good thermometer…we’ve needed a new one for a while. I also bought pedialyte. The bottle says “unflavored”. Is that really true? Has anyone tried the unflavored before? I thought (hoped) I could sneak some of that into her bottles and then I also bought the fruit flavor for her sippy cup. She doesn’t care for water but loves diluted juice so I’m hoping she’ll like the fruit flavor. I just don’t want her to get dehydrated from the diarrhea. ho hum…
Here’s the other kicker…our pediatrician is out of the office until December 12th. The whole office is relocating so they are closed until they get moved into the new place…lovely.
AND I ran out of Zegerid faster than I thought and when I went to phone in the rx, they won’t have any in until Monday. I’ll need more by then. Soooooooooooo I had to call another pharmacy in a different town that actually stocks Zegerid…what a hassle. My original pharmacy hasn’t called over the rx yet, so I’ll have to call them first thing in the morning and remind them that I need it ASAP…I’m NOT NOT NOT going to add reflux to all this mess.
I need to just go to bed before my head spins off my body from thinking about all of this.

Thankfullyour little sweeties are very resilient. I hope she’s on the mend soon and doesn’t get chicken pox or gets a very mild case.

InactiveA lot of times kids can be in close contact with other kids with cp and not get it at all. My friend has tryed to get her kids to get the cp so that they will be immune. She has had them play and drink from the same cup as other kids with it and they never got it. Hopefully Sarah will be like that. Not get it I mean. I know what it is like having a reflux baby sick and it is horrible. Good luck

Inactiveoh WOW sheesh these little ones jsut can’t catch a break. About the chicken pox, Heather is right, babies don’t usualy get it as bad as older guys, Austin was exposed to it from a little girl who had it FOR A WEEK!!! before her mom found out (after they had scabbed over and weren’t contagious of course!!) and he never got it. WOW so much happening at once, I’ll deffinitly send some prayers your way. Maybe try giving her popsicles in a baby safe teether? not that nutrious but a great way to get some extra fluid in her!!!

InactiveI hope that Sarah is feeling better. I wouldn’t worry too much about the chicken pox. As others mentioned, there’s a chance she won’t get them and hopefully it will be mild if she does. However, I did want to mention that they have a 10 to 14 day incubation period, so if she gets them from this exposure you won’t see them for close to 2 weeks.

InactiveWow, lots to deal with at once! Hopefully she won’t get the pox (are they contagious before they break out with the spots?)! We must have the same kind of karma around here b/c I thought it was enought that Hailey’s had fever all week, an ear infection, a nasty cold virus, and after cleaning up 7 vomit episodes last night and 3 today, what I think (hope?) is a tummy bug. Two kids are sick with roseola in her class, and I’m hoping she doesn’t get it. Hang in there. HUGS.

InactiveThanks for all the encouragement ladies. I feel so much better being able to vent here!
Sometimes DH saying “stop worrying so much” ticks me off…but yet it’s reassuring to hear it from other mommies.
Don’t know what the difference is…I guess it’s just a woman thing. Despite everything going on, Sarah has been in a great mood. Her ear infection and sinusitis are practically over. The diarrhea doesn’t seem to bother her…just the diaper rash. So I feel very lucky that she’s so happy today.
Marianna – I bought the thermometer that has been highly recommended by two of my friends. It’s a temporal scan thermometer and it’s about $37 at Wal Mart. It’s really easy and FAST to use. You just run it across your forehead! It’s supposed to be pretty accurate, which is a nice change from the ear thermometer we had before…one reading would say 83 degrees and the next would say 99…not reliable.
Thanks again everyone and I’ll keep you posted!

InactiveGood Lord, Amy! What a mess for you. I don’t have much experience with kids and chicken pox. When do they get vaccinated for that anyway? Also, her loose stool could very well be caused by the amoxicillan. I think that it is a very common side effect of antibiotics, so hopefully once she is done getting it, the diarrhea will clear up too!
I asked for a temporal thermometer for Christmas. Our pediatricians office uses them, and they are so easy! No more guessing about the stupid ear one. We could never get an accurate reading from it either!

InactiveOne more question re: the diarrhea…is it a good sign that she has only had one diarrhea diaper today? (as opposed to the 4 yesterday?) It was still practically water with no substance…but it’s the first one? Is that a sign she’s getting over it?

InactiveHopefully….
Myles is still going 6 – 10 times per day. It’s a nightmare.
Sounds like for Sarah it may have been a mild intestinal thing or maybe just the antibiotics. I’m glad to hear she’s feeling better.
