Inactiveso we found out the hard way that we can’t use the gerber cereal and my GI told me not to use it, but can we use the other fruits and veggies and what not? The thing is that I can buy gerber at Target and walmart cheaper then at the food store

Anyone else try them and not have a problem? Ryder has issues with soy lechiten too……

Inactivegerber i noticed is the unhealthiest baby food. i compared the nutrition facts to beechnut brand and it has a higher sodium content for almost all of the foods. that is bad for our babies!
unless you try the gerber organic? i didnt look at theose labels though.December 11, 2006 at 11:31 am #20033Anonymous
InactiveI’m with Laura, just check the labels and you should be ok. I fed my older son gerber and he was and is just fine. Sometimes Ifed beechnut or whatever. Just want to point out that when they start table food most of the food has an even higher sodium content, it’s really not that big of a deal (to me anyway). I just know that I have a very healthy 7 year old who ate gerber for his first foods, so I’m judgeing things, nutrition wise on that. Plus, in the grand scheme of things, they aren’t (usually) eating baby food for a very long time before (most babies) move on to table food. SO I would just check the labels for soy lechtin which isn’t in any of the plain veggies or fruit. Soemtimes I bought frozen veggies and mashed them in a food grinder, they have a different taste/texture and it’s good for them to get used to a variety of tastes, even if it’s the same food! (frozen peas taste SO different from baby food peas)

InactiveMy GI told me that gerber has hidden dairy—– not sure about it but I do know that when we fed him gerber cereal he was waking every hour at night

Keymasteryes gerber cereals have hidden ingredients-
gotta read those labels…
even some gerber jarred foods have milk or soy ingredients- like creamed spinach (that’s pretty obvious

Inactivegerber does have some hidden soy/diary. Also, some of gerber’s jarred foods have garlic and onion seasoning in them. I have read a number of articles (I’ll try to find and post) re: beechnut being the food of choice for gerd/mspi babies!

InactiveYou know it is funny, my daughter was undaignosed MSPI (she does drink milk now) and she did much worse on Beechnut foods!! Go figure!
I know that the cereal has soy lechin in it, but I don’t think it has any hidden dairy. As for hidden dairy in some other foods, yes they have them, but to my recollection (which, consitering I have huge mommy brain could be wrong) so does Beechnut. You just have to read labels. Both brands, from what I saw, were very good about labeling for any dairy or soy. As for sodium…well I must admit I didn’t even look at that…when Brianna got serious stomach cramps from Beechnut, the last thing I even thought about was sodium!
Good luck! -
