InactiveHave any of you experienced this post partum? I did with my daughter too, and my hair really, really thinned out. Eventually it stopped, but this time around, it is much worse. I could knit a sweater with as much hair that comes out during a shower. I am constantly pulling out of Ben’s fingers and picking it off my clothes. Any idea when it stops??? No bald spots yet, but it’s probably not too far away.

InactiveHappened to me with both of mine! I think the loss was worse with Aidan (my second) and it gradually stopped by the time he was about 8 months or so?? I asked my dr and she told me to take centrum silver (funnily enough) because it has extra selenium and biotin which help with hair growth and loss, and it got MUCH better after I had taken that for a month or 2.

InactiveYes! I lost tons of hair with all of my babies. My doc says it’s partly due to changes in estrogen levels and partly due to nursing. I lost so much hair while nursing! It would fall out of my head in the shower. Fortunately it all seems to have grown back, but it took quite some time after I was done lactating for it to stop falling out and start growing in again. My hairloss was worse with each baby.
Jill, that’s funny about the Centrum Silver. I remember this holisitc doctor (can’t remember his name) said that out of all the vitamins on the market he recommends Centrum Silver – for all adults, not just seniors. I guess I should go get some.

InactiveWith Kaelyn it stopped after she was a year old. With Alex, it hasn’t stopped yet.
I have really fine, thin hair to start with, so I really can’t afford to lose any more.

Keymasterme to me too
I have fine thin hair too- it gets so nice during pregnancy & then away it falls…yick
one thing to check, though: get your thyroid checked. it is not uncommon for this to go wacky before/during/after pregnancy & one symptom is losing hair

I happen to have low thyroid, it’s called hypothyroidism…

InactiveI also have low thyroid. I’m on meds for it and they’ve checked my levels recently. So.. my hair loss is totally pregnancy related. Laura, I’m jealous that your hair got nicer during pregnancy. That’s when mine started falling out!

InactiveIt happened to me too… something I really can’t afford since my hair in on the thin/fine side to begin with. With Sarah it was so bad that dh had to walk around the house picking clumps off the floor. I swear I thought I would go bald. It stopped somewhere around when she was 9 months old. With Hailey it happened too, but I had so many other things to worry about with her, that my appearance was pretty low down on my list. I don’t think it was as bad with her though, but with Sarah I was really concerned.
It does stop though. Our doc said the less hair loss you had during pregnancy, the more you’ll have post partum.. I was one of those people who got nice thick hair during my pregnancy, so I knew what I was in for.
