welcome! please please read Groupie Intro https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=853&am p;PN=1&TPN=1!
don’t give up breastfeeding if you don’t want to- it may or not be something in your diet- after you get your baby on a PROPER dose of PPi THEN you can address diet if you still even think that’s a factor
it’s all there, in Groupie Intro please go take a look & bookmark it…
The Upper GI, (also called a barium swallow?) is good to look for structural abnormalities,
it is *not* good to verify reflux: it is a snapshot in time if you were, so if baby doesn’t happen to reflux at that particular time of the test then a dr might be quick to dismiss you & tell you rflux isn’t there/isn’t bad- the way to show relfux is a ph probe, where the actual length (duration) & frequency (how often) of reflux episodes are recorded…
another ‘Barium Swallow’ is a Swallow Study, where they look at *how* your baby swallows and they look for aspiration of liquid into the lungs- they try various thickness of liquids to see how your baby swallows them
I’m not sure which of these (they are seperate things) your doctor was referring to? (or both or neither?)
if you do get the Upper GI done or the Swallow Study, find out how to contact the actual x-ray technician, bcse if you’re breastfeeding the amount of time that you need to have baby fasting before the procedure is actually less than what ‘they’ will tell you- tell the technician (somehow?) that baby is breastfed and ask how long before the test you can feed your baby (breastmilk is digested faster than formula)
