Well Adriana has been doing pretty good on 15mg of Prevacid a day. But recently she has started to spit up. She has silent reflux and rarley spit up. After I began thickening her feeds she would never spit up. Now she does after pretty much every bottle. Its not alot, but I just think it’s odd. Could this mean she needs her meds increased? She does not seem in pain, is sleeping good and eating good.

She did seem to have an allergic reaction to apple juice (rash on face and difficulty falling alseep), but I stopped that a week ago.

She does seem to have DGE because she spits up hours after she eats. I have reglan, but I don’t give it to her because she got jittery on it.

Any thoughts?

My guess is that the medicine is working for her. Before the medicine, when she silent refluxed, she would swallow it back down because it hurt. Now that (hopefully) it doesn’t hurt anymore, she may actually spit up more (if that makes sense). Both of my little ones were silent refluxers yet they spit up more on medication but were happy. I would say that as long as she is happy and the spitting isn’t causing weight gain problems, things should be ok. But as always, if in doubt, get it checked out.

shane spits up more on the prevacid than off as well. the doctor isnt sure why.. but i too think its a problem if its causing more pain.. if not than i would stick with it. and someone on here mentioned it could make DGE a bit worse.. for some reason.. i am not sure why though.

Hi Jenny,

Prevacid can delay gastric emptying in some kids (because there’s less
acid in the stomach) which can increase spitting up. Hopefully it
doesn’t become too much of a problem!

I can’t remember if I mentioned this to you or not, but Bryce is on
Erythromycin for his DGE and it helps a LOT. It doesn’t have the side
effects that Reglan has, so you might want to give it a try if her DGE seems to be bothering her.

Hi there-ps, our babies are just 2 days apart (Sofie is 9.25.06)!! She is an

unhappy spitter and is on omeprazole….I think she spits up more on meds,

but has less acid to deal with when she does. It’s a tradeoff! Good luck, and

I wonder about Sofie being DGE…not sure if I want to treat it though. She’s

gaining well and healthy despite the spitting.
