InactiveI was going to post a big HELP here until I read a few of the posts. My 2 mo old daughter is on Zantac 2ml 2x per day and just like it says, it has stopped being effective. Thank goodness we have a doctors appointment on Monday. I didn’t know what to think. She never spits up but she won’t nap and is very unsettled all day. Some people I know discount the not napping because she is an excellent sleeper at night. My theory is that she is so worn out from a day of not napping. Also… a 2 month old not napping is not normal. If anyone has any other comments for me before I see the doctor on Monday, I would love to hear it.
Thanks All
Tracy

InactiveIf she seems really out of sorts, I would try to get a PPI over the zantac. It worked much better for Hailey. You can also try to give a little mylanta supreme before nap time and see if she naps better.

InactiveI can tell you what the doc will probably say so you can be prepared. The doc will say that the zantac should be fine and will maybe suggest reglan and also some sleep ideas. When you say you want a ppi the doc will probably say they are not fda approved. Just so you know a lot of what we give our babies is not fda approved. Maybe someone will have some great advice as to what to say when the doc says that. All I know is it seems like a broken record. We go to the doc and go through all that, come home feeling helpless, things get worse, and eventually you just don’t give up or give in. I just want you to fight in the begining so your little one can get help now. I hope this is not discourageing. I hope you have a doc that says a ppi sure and gives you the correct dose. If I were you, now that I think of it, I would go to Marci-kids and print off the info there and have it in hand when you go. Don’t let the doc push it aside either. I made that mistake. Be bold and don’t give up.
Be prepared to fight. Not literally fight
, but get your point across that you are not going away until your baby is better. Also, the sleep thing is very normal for reflux babies. If you go through the boards you will see that most of us do not have babies that sleep well. We are all still trying to figure that one out. Also not to discourage you. I just think it is better to be prepared that the sleep may just be that way for quite some time. My Justice is almost 10 mos old and still doesn’t sleep well. When he was 5 mos old he slet 5hrs in all in a 24 hr period. He was so tired he started having tremours. I eventually brought him to bed with me and he now nurses all night long. At least I get sleep that way. I would do whatever you have to to get some sleep. If it’s a swing, bouncy, your bed, etc. Do it and don’t worry about what everyone else says. They don’t have a clue what it’s like. They may think they do, but they don’t. Off my soap box.

InactiveHello and welcome,
I would suggest printing and bringing along the info from http://www.marci-kids.com. That’s what swayed Myles’ doctor to put him on a high enough dose of Prevacid, and that high dose of Prevacid is what finally turned things around for him.
The fact that she doesn’t spit up means nothing. She is probably a silent refluxer. My middle child was a silent refluxer. She was in plenty of pain, though.
Myles was always a good sleeper (especially at night) so don’t let that sway your doc….in fact I would just not even mention it. Just tell him what’s wrong, not what’s right with your baby.
Good luck and please let us know how your appointment goes.

InactiveHi and welcome. Christine makes a very good point at the end…tell them whats wrong not right (they just get so distracted by whats right they can’t focus on the baby). Alana was a silent refluxer and has nver spit much…but when she did boy did it smell acidic (not know she is on a PPI). If the Dr says no to PPI at first…maybe suggest well could we give it a two week trial and see…then we will know if it is or isn’t going to help. Goodlcuk at your appointment and stick to your guns (maybe write all your points on a little piece of paper you can take with you so you don’t get all confused—they tend to be a bit confusing these Drs

InactiveThank You to all for your ideas. It helps to hear from others. My 15 month old was also a silent refluxer but the Zantac seemed to help her. She (Kasi) outgrew it at 10 months. I hope this one outgrows it too. Therefore, I am on new ground with this one. I was also happy to read about that Sandifers Syndrome. My husband has epilipsy and thought that Katie (2 month old) was seizing. What a relief to know that it has a name and others have experienced it.
I am going to make a list of whats wrong. I have now also checked out Marci kids wedsite – what a God send. I will definatly be printing out some pages from there.
Thanks All

InactiveHi and welcome. Quinn did not nap at all during the day either. From the time she was born. She was pretty uncomfortable for most of the day too and still is. it took me until about 2 months ago to get her to at least take a little cat nap. Even then though, I have to leave her crying in her bed for hours before she lays down.
I found it easier to carry her in a papoose. She would snooze a little in that thing because it kept her upright. But that was on a lucky day. And just like your baby, Q slept through the whole night. At least 7 hours straight and still does. I used to have to wake her up to eat. Well, that’s all. Everybody else covered everything. I wish you luck and hope that the new medication/doses will help!

InactiveIf she’s having Sandifer’s then that should be evidence to your doc that the zantac isn’t enough. Good luck.
