InactiveSince there seems to be such a lack of support for parents going through this, I thought that I would try to act as a support for others in the same situation. I made some “business cards” and left them with the ped, and asked him to give them out to other people who are dealing with reflux or feeding aversions. I haven’t heard from anyone yet, but I figured it I could help people through it, maybe others wouldn’t have to have the same experience that we did.
Just wanted to let you know in case others would like to do the same thing. If people like Oprah don’t want to help get the word out on a global scale, then I think we’re all going to have to band together and help one person at a time.
Anyone else want to join me?

InactiveWow Lori…thats a great idea
. I would like to join you but my pead isn’t exactly open to my idea of the best “treatment” regime
! I will have to think of another way of getting my thoughts out there……March 3, 2007 at 8:01 pm #26528Anonymous
InactiveYou know, this is a great idea. So many people with babies with issues have helped me through this… my EI service coordinator has a mom whose son went to KKI and she got me to speak to her, another mom from another board is helping me with feeding (since she went through St Josepsh feeding a while back) and all of you!!
My plan is: 1. my coordinator knows that any moms of babies with feeding issues can contact me, 2. my GI adn ped know about willingness to help but at least in NYC it must be pretty rare to call someone to share experiences LOL and 3. As soon as Matthew starts preschool next year (2 mornings a week), I am going to try and volonteer helping Special Needs kids with feeding issues and tubes…. god knows i wish i had got some help when i first got the tube!! Hopefully the center where Matthew receives the therapies will be able to help me with this… or just volonteering with those kids in general.

InactiveThat’s a great idea Lori.
I may let Myles’ doctor know that I would be willing to lend some support to any reflux moms she sees. I do wonder if she’s been prescribing higher doses of PPI’s since I convinced her to do it for Myles. I really don’t know because I never asked her, but I probably will when I take Myles in for his next check up.March 4, 2007 at 1:35 pm #26557Anonymous
InactiveWow that is a great idea! I am going to as my Ped about it. Although, I think that a lot of Drs might be scared to let us because we know more about reflux than most of them do.

InactiveKeep it going, I think this can be a very lonely and minimized experience. If I don’t get any calls, then I plan to leave our number with our old feeding therapist. I think even a source of support can help.
Thais, that’s a great idea! I’m sure that you can help a lot of moms out there.

InactiveI also gave my number to Luke’s first ped and never got a call. I know she had other reflux babies though because I later met one who was there after me. UGH! My midwife who delivers babies always tells people about me and all my friends also tell everyone about me. It is so amazing to help out another mom. I just hate that I usually never hear from them again. I still call the lady that first helped me though it. I hope it’s just because their babies are better. Even though my ped never had anyone call me, I still think it is a great idea. Anything we can do to help. I will keep trying to get a story on infant reflux done, but even if it never happens, we still need to do what we can.
