I emailed Dr. Phillips a few days ago, and told him that Ben was having problems again. He suggested bumping his dose up to 20 mg. 3 xday! This seems like so much to me, and I know that his pediatrician won’t want to do it. I don’t know what to do. Should I just give it some more time and see if he really needs more? Maybe he is just having rough time? Does reflux sometimes get worse for a few days just because it does???

Naomi, can you try prevacid? Hailey did so much better on prevacid then on prilosec. I know that Natalia had Trace on 60mg for a while. It is a high dose.

We always had ups and downs despite the dose, but 30mg of prevacid seemed to really help.

We started off with Prevacid back when he was 1 month old. It seems like so long ago, and I don’t know if he was on the right dose, but it didn’t seem to work as well. It was compounded though and not with enough sodium bicarb., so that was probably it too. I couldn’t find anyone to do it correctly, and I just don’t think I could time it around his meals if we used a different type.

try for caracream? (how to do this is in ‘prevacid 101’) bcse it doesn’t have to be timed w/ meals & can be used w/ prevacid

yes we were using 60 mg! it was absolutely crazy.
we now get caracream from dr phillips and Trace is on 27-30 mg of prevacid and doing great! and we are saving sooooo much money!!

i recommend trying that.

also about your ped, does she realize that dr phillips created zegerid? i dont see how she can argue with his dosing since he is the creator and knows much more about its sodium bicarb issues.

i think testing would be a good idea before bumping up to a dose that high.

the thing is…the dose isnt really that high…if you were on the 20 mg packs you would be in the 30 mg range…its because of the buffer issues in the zegerid. Dr phillips explained all this i just have to find it.

I can see why your ped would argue with a dose that high for a 5 month old, even though Dr. Phillips created zegerid. I’d be susprised if a doctor didn’t question it, really, since it’s even beyond Marci-kids own recommendations of dosing per body weight. (I know the dosing calculator will go that high, but that’s due to amounts of buffer required, and not amounts of medication, so you’re essentially giving almost twice the amount of medicine-omeprazole-b/c otherwise there’s not enough buffer in those packets).

I would also try and do prevacid in CaraCream, if you can. Or can you use the other packets? Doesn’t the recommended dose cut by quite a lot that way?
