Inactive…does this sound like an allergy going on??
DS had nothing but formula over the weekend, he was with my mom to give me a break. He was doing great!!! I even posted in the hip hip hooray forum!I got him home sunday afternoon and gave him a BM bottle. By that night he was fussy. So I gave him some axid. The next day he was fussy. All day yesterday he had BM, and last night was not that great again. Gave him more axid. Happy late morning and now fussy again.
He has baby acne on his face that gets red and sandpapery if I don’t treat it everyday, a bit of dotty pimples on his tummy and arms. His little bottom ( anus ) is pretty red and a little bumpy looking. His poop turned from green and gooey ( with only BM ) to yellow and no goo ( only formula ) and now back to gooey ( BM ). I don’t know what exactly mucous should look like with an allergy, but this is slipper, gooey, kinda clearish green/yellow. It also smells bad. I know I already posted this elsewhere, but I am really starting to wonder…
???

InactiveIt does sound like a possible intolerance or allergy. The only thing that comes to mind is that after a couple of weeks on only formula he may start to show the same signs because the proteins will build up in his system. I hate to say to any mom to stop breastfeeding so I would probably take a look at what eat and see if you can find out what is bothering him in your BM.

InactiveI forgot to say he is on the Enfamil gentlease which says it is partially hydrolyzed ( did I say that right ? ) and 1/4 the lactose. I am pumping and freezing, so I can’t remember what I ate at that particular pumping session. I haven’t restricted myself from anything (
calorie wise either… ) so that doesn’t help…I am disconinuing pumping, since I started birth control pills ( long story short- ds and I decided that we are done having kiddos, and I don’t think I could mentally handle a “suprise” right now with all this reflux junk. All children are blessings, but we feel blessed with just our 2 boys for now… )
Should I go ahead with nutramigan??
Confused Once Again,

Inactivegive it a little time—babies that age can be fussy for no apparent reason. he could just have a virus—it’s that time a year. i don’t think it is a good idea to jump and change things when a baby has only been fussy for a couple of days.
when i was growing up, BM referred to bowel movement. LOL!!!LOL!!!

Keymastergo to page 2 of the ‘main’ mspi page (stickied)
& read about allergies/intolerances (scroll down to where you see ‘google cache’)
this might help?
I did the elimination diet just to rule out everything…that was just me…in jonah’s case it turned out that it wasn’t my diet…but I’m glad I found out rather than doubting myself all the time…again, that’s just my story…

InactiveI agree with Kathleen, it sounds like an allergy/intolerance to me (Reidun had many of the same symptoms). If you arn’t going to breastfeed anymore you might want to try Nutramigan. I’d also recommend a visit to the doctor–just in case.
FYI: If you’re discontinuing breastfeeding because of BC pills, you can use an IUD without hormones instead.

InactiveI’d be a little suspicious of an allergy as well. Could you do TED for a couple of weeks (keep all your old frozen breastmilk) and just use TED breastmilk for awhile to see if it makes a diff? (OK I know it is easy to suggest TED…so much harder to do it!). I guess that way you might know (of course you could do just the formula for a couple of weeks…but I also would never advise anyone to give up breastfeeding…what a gift to be able to do it.)

Keymasteryou can breastfeed while on the ‘mini pill’ & at 6months switch to a ‘regular pill’

InactiveLOL Christine! Actually, it still does mean bowel movement in the hospital world. We say EBM (expressed Breast Milk) to avoid confusion.
About birth control… I thought having a baby with reflux WAS birth control! (At least it was around here
)….back on topic, sorry you are having a hard time sorting things out. Hope it improves soon.

Okay EBM… I guess that does sounds funny to say I have been feeding him BM….ewwww
! Lori, very good point, this is birth control!! I have a teenage sister who after hanging around my two babies swears she is NEVER having kids! LOL!
I have been pumping for quite a few weeks and honestly am starting to wind that down. I just have no time for anything other than holding my screaming son or pumping. My older son calls it the “boobie machine”. Sadly that’s about the only one on one time I get with him.
I know that sounds selfish, but when you can’t remember when you ate or what day it is…
I gave him one more EBM bottle yesterday and he was so fussy after having a few good days on the partially hypo formula. His diaper was totally green and gooey again. I broke down and bought the nutramigan (cha-ching! ) and I have to say that last night went really really well. I am not getting all excited, because everytime I do, something falls apart.
Thanks for the opinions ladies. I am going to call the Dr and see what she says, maybe she’ll return my call since I’m not going to be bugging her about meds….

InactiveHope you find something that works for you. Pumping is definitely a challenge to maintain longterm. Just so you know, you can also freeze it, if you’re producing more than you’re using right now. If you want to continue BF, maybe a good LC can help. If not, I hope that the nutramigen is the answer for you. Good luck.

Keymasterno I wasn’t saying ‘sorry go look somewhere before posting’

(well I guess I was, but that’s not the point I was trying to make
)I just meant that I know from prior posts, not from my own experience, that there is this honeymoon period thing w/ switching formulas and I didn’t want to be the bubble burster w/o any evidence…not even sure I’m making sense?

Ii find myself posting the same thing that tons of others have… good to know your not the only one wondering the same things! No, I didn’t think that you meant to go elsewhere.
I have to applause your awesome abilty to find and post info for all of us here!
It really helps to have the posts that are always available to read through, which I’ve done, but sometimes it is comforting to “hear” other peoples thoughts…Thanks!
