My baby is 14 weeks old and loves to be carried around. It is the only way to make the screaming stop. Before he was born I purchased a Kangaroo fleece pouch as a carrier. He loved this for the first month, but then it made his reflux worse because his little legs were squooshed up. Then about a month ago, I switched to the baby bjorn since his legs can dangle down. Only problem is, he doesn’t like the bjorn nearly as much. . .not as comfy cozy even though it doesn’t aggrevate his reflux.
Anyone have a sling/carrier that your baby likes and doesn’t squoosh up the legs?

Several people have mentioned how wonderful hotslings are. I’m not sure though, I think that they are similar to the fleece pouch. Kaelyn hated the Bjorn because she didn’t like the way that it forced her legs apart.

Alot of kids don’t like the Bjorn; some believe that carriers that center the baby’s weight on their groin like the Bjorn can cause damage to a baby’s hip and spine . . . The stretchy wrap looks complicated but it was very, very easy and both dh and I used it to death. Check out a moby wrap: http://www.mobywrap.com I quit using it when she started weighing more and the stretchiness of the wrap made it not work so well for us.
When Ally was around 3 months old, I started used a mei tai, also known as an ABC (Asian-style Baby Carrier). We still use ours, I love it so much, it’s very easy and comfortable to wear. Holy cow, I used this one to death too, it was her nap place for a long time. I have a Sachi, which I love http://www.sachicarriers.com, other moms on this site use Kozy’s www.kozycarrier.homestead.com
Now that Ally’s older, we use a pouch sling every day. Sounds like you have one, I don’t know how you’re carrying your baby if his legs are smooshed up, but I found that pouch to be great once Ally was sitting because I can hip carry her and it’s fabulous. I have a Hotsling http://www.hotslings.com and couldn’t live without it, although I can’t imagine how other stretchy pouches are much different.
http://www.thebabywearer.com has product reviews on it and instructions about how to use all of the different kinds of slings. You may be able to find carry variations for your pouch that are more comfortable for ds. I’ve found the reviews really helpful because I’m able screen through different types of slings and find the best one.

Thanks for all the information! Your post was very helpful. I will check out some of the sites you mentioned.
Kim,
When Kaelyn was a few months old, how did you wear her in the Kangaroo pouch? Like a cradle or sitting up?
Thanks,
Lori

March 21, 2006 at 10:08 am #4349AnonymousInactivejust a note, I have a kozy, just bought it and my son HATES it….he likes to be front carried which the site said you could do with it, but he is SOOOO uncomfortable in it that I am thinking about sending it back…and using the 17 $ snugli that he loves so much….. (and blah to that crap about carriers like the baby bjorn causing damage, they have been around FOREVER and if that was true they’d be off the market, not to mention the astounding number of babies who would have spinal damage)
March 21, 2006 at 5:09 pm #4378hellbenntKeymasterbefore you send it back, I’d try other carries with it…just to see if you can make it work…oh well…
March 21, 2006 at 5:48 pm #4381AnonymousInactiveI have a hotsling. The one that the baby can rest on your hip, seems like to will work well with babies 3 months and up, like if they have some head control. I use it every day and love it! I just joined a babywearing group and already I met a mom who invited me to come over and try all of her many wraps so I can find the perfect one. Also, they have a class where they do that too. Just an idea for you, its so tedious always having to hold these refluxers upright!
March 21, 2006 at 8:00 pm #4386AnonymousInactiveLaura, yeah I think I’m just frustrated with it, I can’t seem to get him in it where he looks like he’s in it the way the kids on the website are. The front always gapes open a HUGE amount…decided not to send it back b/c I have been thinking that it might work better when he’s older……besides..it’s so darn pretty..
March 21, 2006 at 8:28 pm #4387AnonymousInactiveI went to the Kozy website and loved how the slings looked. Henry doesn’t like to be front carried; he likes to be held on the hip or up near the shoulder. I’ll be curious to hear if other positions work better with it than the front carry. I looked at the hotslings and I’m wondering if I could use that when pregnant. I think a baby wearing group would be awesome. How great would it be to try on a selection of slings and find out what works best for you!
