InactiveIn Aus 4 year old kinder (pre-school) is pretty much the norm. The government actually funds it. Its only about 6hrs a week though. Kids start school between 4.9 and 5.

KeymasterI went back to work when jonah was 2 & he’s been in preschool ever since
.If I was home, I still would have sent him but maybe just 2 or 3 days a week, for the morning until lunch time…or maybe keep there him one day a week for lunch…
he learned to drink from a cup at age 2 in preschool

InactiveAs Tiffany said, I may just be looking for the benefits of day care to make me feel better about having to work, but I think that Kaelyn has gotten a lot of “school”. She definitely has grown socially and she’s learned tons of songs and activities. I do a lot with her when I’m off in the summer, but I doubt that I would have managed to think of all of the different things that they’ve done with her.

InactiveI’m a SAHM but Alexis is turning 3 soon so we are looking into pre-school for her. We actually have an evalution meeting on Monday, to see if she qualifies! Can you believe that? I thought the idea of school is to teach the kids, they want to make sure she is not too smart for the program nor too behind! I think she will really benefit from learning with others. She is very social but she really needs better rules etc. Also I really think she is bored with me, I truly don’t blame her. Trying to take care of Taylor does occupy a lot of my time. I think she will really enjoy time away from me and Taylor with other children. Can’t go out much since Tay is always sick and all Alexis wants to do is get out of the house!! She doesn’t know that I agree with her!!!

InactiveHi Sue,
So if a child is behind that school doesn’t want them? I think that is discrimination, and does not even abide by the American with Disabilities Act. I know because our state went after a preschool/daycare that eliminated Dylan for his delays.
I would not want my child in a discriminatory environment. I think I would look for another preschool. That only starts at a very young age how to discriminate by only putting children with children like themselves.
Private preschool or not, they are REQUIRED by the FEDERAL LAW to abide by the ADA, and they are clearly not.

Inactivei never believed in pres-school, but i have found that the expectations of grade school have changed alot since my older kids started school. my twins used to bring home printed stories to read in first grade. four years later, when molly was in kindergarten, she brought home those same pages to read—–and they were done with the whole series in january or february. i have had several children go to pre-school, but only because my mother put them in it—-i can’t afford pre-school!!!

InactiveIsn’t it horrible what these kids have to go through? A friend of mine is sending her 5 year old to a Quest school next year and she had to spend $500 for an IQ test! Can you believe it an IQ test for a 5 y/o it is just absurd! Alexis had her testing today, it was play based but still it was 1 1/2 hours long and quiet intense for a soon to be 3 y/o! We have the final meeting April 30th to see if she gets in and if she does, does she qualify for additional therapies such as speech or occupational! My mom doesn’t remember doing all of this when I went to pre-school! It is just nuts!
