Hi all,

Gabby turned nine months this week and at the doctor’s today, she talked about offering finger foods. Any ideas for good finger foods to offer (preferrably higher in calories since she is a bird when it comes to eating)? Also, does anyone know of any books that talk about serving sizes and ideas of what to offer kids at their meals after age one? Basically what I’m looking for is an example of nutritious meals. I don’t want to offer too little or too much. I’m kind of at a loss when it comes to this kind of thing. Thanks in advance for your help.

Reidun loves to eat avocado as a finger food (high in good fats/calories). She will also eat any of her other tolerated foods in cut up portions (instead of blended) as finger foods; like meats, fruits and veggies. In the TED Basics section under “Reidun’s Story and Gathered Info” (toward the very end) I have her menu all typed out. Hope it helps!

Heres a recent post (long one) where we discuss finger foods/foods.

Alana has sultanas, bananas, any fruit cut into pieces (watermelon, cantelope, kiwi fruit), little dry biscuts (crumbly ones that melt in mouth), toast, fruit bun (you could load the avacado on the later three). Alana basically eats what we eat now (i just make sure I don’t include dairy until after I have taken out her serve, and in terms of amounts I just keep giving it to her until she loses interest.

Goodluck.
