Inactivemy daughter is now a month and 15 days (6 weeks) and has reflux. We found out that she had reflux at the age of 10 days. We started her out on the soy formula no change so then we went to the zantac no change. Right now she is taking previcid 7.5 mg a day mixed with 2oz of water. still not helping. In the past 2 1/2 weeks we have changed her formula 3 times fisrt it was the simalc alimentum no change the enfimil nutramigen no help. Now she is on elecare. She has been taking it for 48 hours now and still now sign of relief. seriously what else am i going to have to put my lil one through. I wish there was more that we could do for her. She is just non stop crying (painful crying). I don’t get anymore then 3 hours a sleep total every night. I can get her to fall asleep for about 20 min and then she instnatly wakes up screaming. I know that there is a end to this adventually but seriously what can i do for till then. I have bought everything that was suggested on this page and nothing helps.

InactiveI am assuming you have tryed gaviscon too? Marci-kids.com please check it out. Go into your peds office and don’t leave until you have what you want. That is my avice short and sweet. I am a little pushy though. The reason for that is because we got the run around for so long and if we could have put Justice on zegerid and the correct dose sooner, I have a feeling things would’ve been better.

InactiveHello and welcome,
I’ve had two reflux babies so I sure know how hard it is. My first refluxer never got relief due to not getting the right meds and it was pure torture for her and me until she finally outgrew it at 9 months.
Fortuntately my son fared much better since I found this site and finally got him the treatment he needed.
First, how are you giving the Prevacid? If she’s on the solutabls, packets or capsules, you have to give it on an empty stomach and follow it up 30 minutes later with a feeding. This is important in getting the full effect of the medication.
It can take about two weeks to see relief after starting a PPI medication like Prevacid. How long has she been on Prevacid? If she’s not improving after a two week trial, I’d suggest asking for a higher dose. Some babies do fine on lower doses, but the researchers at http://www.marci-kids.com say that babies need higher doses given three times daily due to the fact that they metabolize and eliminate these meds 3-4 times faster than adults. My son did not improve until he was on the high dose that these researchers reccommend.
Also, with any formula change it can take weeks to see any improvement because it can take that long for offending proteins to be eliminated from the body.
You can read lots about reflux and MSPI in Laura’s Intro link (stickied in the Introduce Yourself Forum).
Hang in there. I know how hard it is. I’m glad you found us and I hope we can help.

InactiveHi there. Welcome to the site! I remember how awful the early days were before Hailey was medicated properly. Hopefully we can help you to sort things out.
I basically agree with everything that Christine said, so I’ll try not to be repetitive (I guess some of us have been around here so long that we basically think alike
).I remember being in the thick of it and wanting some relief so badly that I basically would change anything and everything I could in hopes that something would help. My advice would be to try not to make too many changes at once- if you do, then you might not be giving things enough time to work out, and if something does work then it will be hard to know what did the trick.
One more thing about the solutabs, if that’s what you’re using, is that you can not crush it.
About the elecare, like Christine said, these things are not a quick fix, and can take a couple of weeks to see improvements. I would try to stick it out.
About the sleep, you might want to try to elevate her crib, or getting a wedge like the Tucker sling. I haven’t used it personally, but have heard pretty good things about it. You might also want to try babywearing. Good luck.

InactiveOh yeah… you can also try giving some mylanta cherry supreme and see if that helps to take the edge off.
also, about the sleep, we used a lot of white noise around here!

Inactiveuse infant gas drops and mylanta supreme. It took a good week on Nutramigen for me to see a big difference in Cooper. And we have been on prevacid for almost 2 weeks now and we still have moments where he won’t stop screaming, that is where the gas drops and mylanta supreme are a blessing. also, if she will sleep on your shoulder then let her and try to rest when she does, I know easier said then done. We had 10 weeks of only 3hrs of sleep at night, we are 3 months old today (13 weeks on Friday), so I know where you are coming from. Ask people for help so that you can go take a nap… I didn’t but probably should have.
It will get better I promise.
