InactiveOkay so after the past 16 months we have went through, the dh and I desparately need a vacation together (just us!). Since Addy is doing so much better, I would feel comfortable letting her stay overnight a few nights with the grandparents. We are thinking of going on a cruise or to a Sandals resort (where we went for our honeymoon). We aren’t rich by any stretch of the imagination but it is just something we feel we need right now. Everyone here knows the strain put on a marriage by reflux (and FPIES) and we need to see a light at the end of this stressful tunnel in our marriage.
So does anyone have any thoughts: cruise vs. Sandals?
Good cruiselines?
Bad cruiselines?
I think we are planning to go at the end of Jan/early Feb. We definitely want something tropical.
Any input would be great! I trust you girlies opinions!

InactiveMy DH’s company takes us on a trip every winter kind of a Christmas bonus thing. Anyway, we have been to Mexico (resort style stuff) mulitple times and just 2 winters ago we went on our 1st cruise.
I would definately go with the resort. JUST MY PERSONAL OPPINION!
On a cruise, you usually only port for 1 or 2 days depending upon the length of the cruise. Consequently you are on a boat otherwise…… That sounds obvious, and it also sounds really nice when you’ve been through what you have the last long months, but when it is time to be on the boat, it gets a little long.
There is not much to do on the boat but eat, drink and sleep. I’m not a good sit around person, so if you are, that might be the place for you because you will have plenty of time to rest.
Another downfall, if it’s at all stormy, we had one day of heavy winds, no sun, it’s pretty much a wasted day on a boat because you won’t really want to be outside on the decks. It got so windy, I was scared I would be blown off and I’m not joking! Anyway, there isn’t much to do on there.
They of course have ballroom dancing, a small casino, shopping, but not the kind of shopping that you are thinking of, just the tourist stuff. There are daily activites, bingo, line dancing, rock climbing and singing contests how ever you spell karoke.(that’s not right!)
Anyway, we ported in Cozumel I think, but you really are on a limited time frame and so you are hurrying around to shop and see some sights and then about 5 p.m are back on the boat, so land time is short lived.
I know I’m making cruises sound bad, but I think there are some bigger ships, and of course the bigger the better, but also like you said, the more pricey they will be! If you really like to eat and drink, there will be plenty of that!
I like resorts b/c you can really do as much or as little as you like! Plus another added benefit is you can call home, now for me this is a good thing, b/c I need to hear that my children are doing well.
When we were on the ship, you can’t really call anywhere unless you want to give your left arm for it……. It killed me to not talk to anyone for a few days and we went on our cruise when we only had Griffin and he was my easy one! That may be good or bad for you.
Also on a cruise they give you a card to take around for your drinks. I don’t know if you can make drinks all enclusive on any cruise line.
That was the only thing we had to pay for the entire trip, our tips and the cruise and airfare were paid for by the company. Our bill was about $200 and it’s hard to keep track of how much money you are spending and then the last day, THEY PRINT YOU THE BILL!
Just A LOT of thoughts from me……..
BUT BY ALL MEANS, whatever you do, make it enjoyable!!!!!!! YOu deserve it!!!

InactiveThanks Erica! Lots of great stuff that I didn’t think of…especially about not being able to call home on the boat. That would freak me out too much to not know daily how Addy was doing!!!
If you don’t mind me asking, do you know some of the names of the resorts that you went to in Mexico? We only know about Sandals since we’ve been there before. I love the all inclusive thing!

InactiveI can’t remember the one we stayed at in Mazatlan, that was the company one again. I’ll ask Kevin’s bosses wife, she books all our trips and they have been EVERYWHERE! She used to be a travel agent so she would know what is fairly nice with a nice price!!
We really like the Palace Resorts. They are all over Mexico and we stayed at Moon Palace for our honeymoon b/c my DH wanted a golf package. The Palace resorts are nice because with the all inclusive we had you could eat at any of the other Palace resorts in Cancun. (there were 3 or 4 different hotels and each had 5-7 different places to eat in them from bar to nicer style)
Moon Palace is outside of Cancun, so there is a bus that runs into town at different times of the day so you don’t have to pay a taxi, plus they leave you off right at different places one day is touristy stuff, the next is shopping, etc. We did pay for taxi service a lot and it’s really not that bad.
Let me ask her what she suggests, she’s always got good ideas. They are flying off to Arizona today, of course they have money and money is nice for that kind of stuff!!!!
Okay, I just tried to call her and she is off already, so I’ll get back to you on that one…… If I don’t get back to you by TUE, PM me, my memory is short!!!

InactiveWe love cruises and resorts both just a much! Go for an adults only resort since most cruises allow families, children of all ages. Not that there is any wrong with children, but since you are leaving yours at home why have a reminder. I know when we go out without our kids and we see other people’s kids, we just keep on looking at them and saying how cute they are then we start talking about our own. Anyways, the resort we loved the most in the Mexico area is called El Dorado Royale, there is 2 resorts by that name El Dorado, we liked the Royale one better than the Spa one. It is adults couples only all inclusive and very secluded so very quiet and it was great! Enjoy yourself! Our favorite cruise line is Royal Carribean by the way!

Keymasterwhen I need an answer I search the BBB, lol
“just returned from Secrets Capri in Riveira Maya. AMAZING vacation. No casino, but spa, activities, entertainment, etc.
One thing that was really important to us was that we find somewhere that was adults only. We figured if we saw kids all around us we’d miss the kids, or wonder why we just didn’t bring them.
Here’s a link to the Secrets resorts:

InactiveI would go for the resort…mostly because everything is included. My DH and I aren’t rich either, but when we went to an all-inclusive resort for our honeymoon, it was nice because we paid one price and didn’t think about how much things cost while we were there.
