InactiveI am returning to work on Thursday
and am considering part time breastfeeding. I don’t want to pump at work if I don’t have to. If that’s the case, I’ll probably just switch to formula all together. I am on the road and in court for hours at a time and it’s just not realistic. However, If I can nurse once or twice a day, that would be great. Will my milk supply keep up if I just feed early am and before bed? I thought some of you supplementing moms might know b/c their LO’s diets are not solely bm. Any thoughts??May 21, 2007 at 6:41 pm #34022Anonymous
InactiveI can’t say from personal experience, but when I was a nanny I worked for moms who only nursed twice a day and they were able to do that for many months.
Good luck with your return to work!

InactiveSorry I don’t have any advice… I tried to do it part-time with Sarah, and it worked for a few months until she eventually “fired me” and went for the easy way out.
Laura is a really good resource for BF, so maybe she can help.
Good luck with your return to work. I hope that things go well.

Inactivei can answer this one from experience! i had to go to work full time when daisy jane was 6 weeks old. i nursed her part time very successfully. i did pump at work, but i only pumped during my lunch break—–and i don’t even remember if i did that for the whole year. i nursed her in the mornings and in the evenings and during the night when she woke up. this was back in the days when a plunger style pump was the GOOD pump!LOL! your milk supply should adjust to the amount of nursing that you choose to do. however, you could possibly be a little uncomfortable during the adjustment period. you might want to do some “tapering off” pumping during the day at first to make yourself more comfortable. i nursed daisy jane until she was 12 1/2 months old and took her off the bottle at 15 months.

Keymasternak (nursing at the keyboard,lol)
i go back to work & that is my plan
2x a day
ari will be 13 months when i return
i was at 2x a day w/ jonah at 12 months- he really only drank water during the day bcse he didn’t like milk- he would maybe sip an ounce or 2 but he was a good eater and got calcium from yogurt & dairy products, etc
now w/ ari I have to go back to work and I plan on nursing him 2x a day- morning & night but realistically with this guy, I foresee nursing him when I pick him up from daycare, at night in the middle of the night (
) and in the morningMay 22, 2007 at 9:38 am #34086Anonymous
InactiveI’m pumping because Bryce has a feeding tube and doesn’t nurse, but I’m only pumping twice a day – once in the morning and once before bed. It’s working fine for me.

InactiveI think you should be just fine. When I weaned Brianna down to twice a day, my milk supply stayed just fine, and she was a twice a dayer for a few months. Also, I like Christine’s idea of pumping just at lunchtime as a good alternative if you do think your supply is getting low. Good luck!

Inactivewith my first son, the ped told us to switch to formula before we knew about reflux and we did so very regretfully. i continued to pump even though he was on formula and after going through numerous kinds of formula, i decided to just go back to nursing unfortunately my supply was very damaged so he could only nurse part time. i was able to do so until he self weaned at 10mths.
