InactiveHello:
My daugheter developed reflux at 3 months of age and was put on Prevacid and Similac Alimentum. She is now doing wonderful and is been off the Prevacid and drinking Good Start formula.
My son switched to whole milk at 10 months old because he wouldn’t drink the formula any more, so I put him on the poly vi sol vitamins to make up for what he was losing in the formula.
Morgan is now doing the same thing since she started on table food, getting her to take formula is a fight. I tried the stage 2 formula to see if that would help and she refuses it as well. Are there any known complications with whole milk and a refluxer? Any concers I should have about switching her? I know you are supposed to wait until they are a year old, but I am worried that she will starve until then.
Thanks…….

InactiveSome docs say it’s fine to put infants on whole milk at 9 months. If you want to try it I’d do it very slowly (like 2 ounces a day for two weeks) because it can take two weeks for the milk proteins to build up in the body enough to cause symptoms. If she’s doing well on Good Start that’s a good sign that she may be able to handle whole milk, but it’s not a guarantee.
How long has she been off of Prevacid? How long has she been on Good Start?

InactiveShe went off the Prevacid at 8mo and swithced to Good Start around 81/2 or 9 months. She has been able to tolerate things like mashed potatoes and pudding, and other table foods that have milk in them for a while.

Inactivei would try yogurt first…something with a bit more milk. than i would slowly introduce it..
cows milk is hard to digest.. expecially whole milk..that is why they say to wait until a year.. but many cant do it even then! soo thats why i would be very cautious and do it slow with a refluxer.
also is it possible that she isnt drinking because it bothers her from not being on her meds or no?? also shane didnt want his bottle when he was teething badly.. do you think she is teething??

InactiveAlso it could be a taste issue. When I switched my son to Good Start he hated it. It was a taste issue for him. I had to mix it with soy or breast milk (that’s what he had been on previoulsy) for quite some time until he adapted to the taste of Good Start. Just a thought…

InactiveI do think she might be teething. She was drinking the good start very well and then just quit. She will still take juice or water, but not the formula……….
She hasn’t been showing any signs of the reflux so I don’t know if it is that or not. She is very happy and playful all the time, no signs of discomfort other than nawing her hand off from the teething.
