InactiveMy prayers are with you super dad!!! This is so tough and I’m sure my version of tough is soooooooo much different then yours
Take heart in the fact that you are at such a good place to get answers. These moms are the best! Believe it or not your daughter KNOWS you are doing everything you can for her and I’m POSITIVE things will start to turn around.
I know that’s not much of a consolation right now but I really believe with all my heart it will. Reflux is one of the toughest, roughest, trial and error rollercoasters but one thing it’s taught me is that there IS a light at the end of the dark endless tunnel, promise. I’ll be thinking of you and your family tonight and hoping things start to get better

InactiveHello and welcome,
Are you most concerned with her vomitting? Was she tested for DGE (delayed gastric emptying). If she’s not gaining weight because she’s vomitting too much of what she’s being fed, then she may need a motility medication. Erthromycin is sometimes used for this purpose as is Reglan, but Reglan can have some serious side effects, so I’d only use that as a last resort.
Does she seem to be in pain? Is she content during bottle feedings, or does she fight them and cry during feedings? If she’s in pain and dislikes being fed then she probably needs an increase in her Prevacid dose. Most doctors under dose PPI meds because the are not aware of the current research at http://www.marci-kids.com that shows babies metabolize these meds 3-4 times faster than adults so they usually need higher doses given three times per day instead of just once.
Also, has anyone suggested increasing the caloric content of her formula? I would not do this without asking her doctor first becasue it can lead to constipaiton and dehydration if it’s not done correctly, but if weight gain is a problem it may be something to consider.
Well, I hope that helps some. You sure have your hands full. I hope you find the answers you need to help your little sweetie.
Oops, I just re-read your post and found that she’s already on Reglan. Hmmm… maybe Erythromycin would work better for her.

Inactivewayne, if she can’t keep it down, it isn’t going to matter how much they keep trying to put back in with an NG tube. my sylvia would eat, spit it up, eat again, spit it up….etc. she ate plenty, she just couldn’t keep enough down to keep from being failure to thrive. it sounds like you have already eliminated MSPI as being a reason for her reflux.
sylvia ended up with alot of esophageal damage and had a fundo just before she turned 10 months old—turns out she had a hiatal hernia that had not shown during any of her tests. a hiatal hernia isn’t that common in babies, but it might be something to consider with the amount of vomiting your daughter is doing.
twins are so much fun—mine just turned 16.

InactiveHi Wayne and welcome,
My little guy has had similar problems to those of your little girl. He has always vomited TONS and at one point he was also losing weight (desite always having a feeding tube). He was finally diagnosed with DGE and put on Erythromycin. It made a HUGE difference. It reduced his vomiting dramatically. Like Christine said, it’s a motility med like Reglan, but works differently and doesn’t have the scary side effects. So anyway, this might be something worth mentioning to your doctor. We also have to fortify Bryce’s milk for him to gain weight well. Are you fortifying your daughter’s milk for extra calories? Good luck with everything! I sure hope you can get things straightened out soon!

InactiveHi and Welcome,
I don’t have any advice either, but I wanted to say that Trace and I share the same b-day
, and I REALLY admire you! I can’t imagine trying to put a tube down my babies nose. That would kill me. Our second son had to have the ph probe at 2 weeks of age, and they took him out of the room so I wouldn’t have to see them put it in (apparently it’s kind of bad to watch), so I feel for you. You must be an awesome dad! I hope things get better for the twins soon and that the wise ladies on this board will come to your rescue with some great advice. I know they saved my sanity in the beginning when our little one was so colicky.
Take care

InactiveOk I’m back, and by that i mean I actually started this post over 24hrs. ago, then the phone rings twice & by the time I hung up it was time for nighttime feedings and potty runs. Then there was only energy for sleep. Then there was this big blur that i think was my Tuesday
.Ok so first off let me start by expressing my thanks to everyone for all of your caring, support and advice. I was overwhelmed by the response. Thank you so much.
Today was spent at the hospital and Ped. getting x-rays, blood drawn and urine samples. We are now on a wait and see with the 24hr NG drip to see if that makes a difference. So far hasn’t helped. My little pirncess had a pretty ruff day, on top of all the poking and proding she vomitted 5 times. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
And just to spice up the day a little bit (since it was so dull) my wife had to stay out of work today and take Trace to the Dr. he has tonselitis.
Also I wanted to put this out there, i don’t know if anyone has mentioned it before but someone my wife works with suggested that we take Autumn to a Ped. Chiropractor. They said that there daughter had reflux and they took her and it made a huge difference. We were just starting to take Autumn when she had to go in the hospital so i can’t comment on the effects personally. I did however research it online and found several other sites that suggested it as well. Worth a try I say.
Again THANK YOU ALL for you wonderful replies.

InactiveI can’t believe I am just reading this now! I’m so sorry that you are going through this! What formula is she on now? Taylor my youngest had a lot of problems with formula, she was allergic to milk, corn, and corn syrup, she could not even tolerate Neocate since it contains corn syrup. We finally found out she was not allergic to soy, but all the formulas on the market that is soy has corn in it, so working with a nutritionist we got her on Ross Carbohydrate free soy formula. In regards to the Chiropractor we were desperate with Taylor and took her there it only helped with her gas, bowel movements, and sleep but not with her reflux, it didn’t hurt her though. I hope you get get answers soon and Autumn gets better!!!
