Hello. Cannot see ped. gi doc for another week. Have read that some of the moms have given zantac at night in addition to daily dosage of prevacid. My son is 22 lbs., 8 1/2 months. He currently takes 15 mg prevacid solutab 2x per day. Does okay during the day but “comes alive” between 12 & 5 am typically. Has never slept through the night. Would like to try a dose of zantac (which I have on hand from early on meds.) but am not sure what dosage to start with or if it will be harmful to him. Just need to get by for one more week. Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

22lbs is 10kilos

max zantac dose is 10mg/kilo

so he can have 100mgs a day

zantac liquid is 15mgs/ml

so that’s 6.7mls a day total at the max dose that he can have

maybe try 5mls at night & see if it helps?

make sure it’s given at least 4hrs seperate frm the prevacid

ask your pharmacist to consult her/his electronic device called an ipharmacist, which is updated regularly with all the current dosing, for oral pediatric dosing of zantac

Hi there,

my dd is 18-14 ounces and in addition to her 15mg of prevacid she takes 1.5ml of zantac twice a day. i hope that helps.

We did prevacid and zantac for awhile. We were taking the max dose of Zantac for weight.. which was about 75mgs at the time.

Another suggestion would be prevacid in the morn, zantac midday and prevacid at night?

Thanks. 12 to 5 am is his worst time, does fine all day. So I am going to try Zantac when he wakes tonight, assuming I can get him to take it (horrible tasting even when flavored). My hope is that the Zantac will then keep him comfortable until morning. Make sense to anyone or am I expecting too much? Thanks.

Definately worth a try. If it works you could ask your dr for a script for the zantac efferdose. Much nicer flavour.

If 12-5 is his worse time, I wonder if giving a later night dose of the prevacid would be more effective than Zantac…and give the Zantac during the day when the reflux isn’t as bad. Maybe that would be worth considering if you find that some extra meds at night work IYKWIM.

I actually always found Alana’s reflux was worse during the day for some reason. Maybe because her stomach was always full during the day and she didn’t eat much after 6pm at night.

Thank you so much for both the suggestions and support! I gave Duane Zantac when we woke at about 11:30 pm (mixed w/ a little of his formula). We now have renewed hope that we can survive this “reflux thing” until he outgrows it (prayers please). He was calmer than he has been since just weeks old! His ear also started draining last night, started drops today, he has tubes. I can only pray that the nights get better, amazing how good we feel after a little improvement! Can’t wait to see the new Ped. G.I. doc this Friday.
