im soo frustrated! my son was finally diagnosed with reflux after months of doctors telling me he was just fussy i diagnosed him by reading this site and told the doctor, they prescribed me zantac and for 3 days i had a changed baby..i was so happy i cried. but now on the 4th day, its back to the fussing and crying
!! i did see that my dose is low compared to the chart here….7 ml for a 14 pounder..could that be the problem?? should i raise it on my own?? my ped is no help, he seems to know nothing about reflux..i had to push him to get the med..he thinks if hes ganing weight he is fine
my insurance wont cover ped gi without referral and i really dont see this guy giving me one…do you think i should up the zantac..call for something else?? i know they prescribed zantac cause my insurance covered it..i should also mention that he calmed down after some gripe water.Wow can I relate to you. I HATE that whole thing about overlooking your baby because he/she is blessed to be gaining weight well. Arrrrrg. Unfortunately I’ll have to leave the questions about Zantac to the other more informed moms but I will encourage you to change your ped. Now, this is a personal choice but we changed three times because no one would listen to me or really knew much about reflux which is truly infuriating. We are PAYING them to take care of our babes and know better and when they don’t, or at least aren’t supportive at all, I say keep on lookin’!!! I know it’s hard, believe me, I’ve been there. But b/c of mamas on this site I tried to be brave and switch and not settle and it has given us such opportunity to get Kate to feel better. It’s just my two cents
I hope you figure out the Zantac or find a med that will get your baby feeling better ASAP!!( I DO know Zantac is very weight sensitive so maybe that’s why it worked for a little while?

. then request a referral for a ped GI. say PLEASE. then call the office to tell them to look for your fax.then call the office back again & ask about your referral. Don’t ‘ask’ justask when/how you can pick up the referral, or will the office fax it for you and to whom are they faxing it? In fact, pick a ped GI & give the info in the fax to the ped’s office…your dr works FOR you & WITH you so you should not have to beg for a referral!!! if he will not give you a referral than go find another dr…
as for the zantac, you mean .7mls, as that’s what you wrote in your other postI cannot tell you to increase your baby’s medication. HOWEVER what you CAN do is to go to the pharmacist where you get the zantac and ask her/him to please consult her/his electronic device called an ipharmacist which is updated regularly with all the current dosing. Ask her/him to please check for the oral pediatric dosing of zantac

(this is what the pharmacist will tell you: Duodenal and gastric ulcer: children 1 month to 16 years: 2-4 mg/kg/day divided twice daily to a maximum dose of 300 mg/day
GERD and erosive esophagitis: children 1 month to 16 years: 5-10 mg/kg/day divided twice daily. GERD max dosage: 300 mg/day. erosive esophagitis max dosage: 600 mg/day)
once you have this information, you would not be the first caregiver to increase the medication. Again, I cannot tell you to do this. But you can find out WHAT the dose CAN BE and then request (via fax) the med increase request by stating (not asking!) the medication dose from pharmacist & what you will give to your baby…
