This is just my opinion based on my experience with Florastor, so take it with a grain of salt. As I’ve said, I’ve used florastor personally for c-diff. I’ve recommended the kids version to several people on this site for c-diff, but I don’t think anyone has actually ever used it.
They do have a kids version, but for some reason it wouldn’t be my first choice of probiotic in an infant for problems other than c-diff or diarrhea. It is called a probiotic b/c it’s good for the intestinal tract, but it’s not the same kind of probiotic like acidophilus or bifidus. Those probiotics are actually good bacteria that are introduced into the gut. Florastor is saccromyces bouillardi which is a yeast. It has been found to kill certain bad bacteria in the gut, as is common in c-diff, infectious colitis, infectious gastroenteritis, chronh’s etc, and therby manage intestinal health. It is good to stop these types of diarrhea. I have contacted the company, and they haven’t considered an impact in GERD/reflux to date, though they’ve done tons of research on other illnesses.
Another thing to note is that it may cause constipation. I’m not telling you this to deter you, just so that you know how it is different from the types of probiotics that most people try in their babies.
