InactiveHey i was just wondering if anyone has tried or heard anything about the enfamil AR lipil…? our doc has put ella on it today. i havent tried it yet, she will next feeding. she didnt do well with rice/oat in bottle. upset her stomach and during the feedings it was sooo frusterating for her and me. shes a lazy feeder so it was too much work for her. so if anyone has any comments good or bad about the AR formula please let me know!

InactiveI don’t have any personal experience with it, but two of my friends used it with their children with great success. Apparently, it isn’t thicker when you drink it, it thickens when it hits the stomach. So that should help if she’s a lazy feeder.

KeymasterI’m not sure what you mean about a lazy feeder, but is this something (asking others from the board here, not just you sheena
)that should be checked out? Like by a speech pathologist or whoever looks at swallowing and things of that nature?Just a thought…because I *think* matthew’s mama (Thais) just posted something about this regarding matthew?Just typing out loud, lOLJuly 14, 2007 at 1:42 pm #39222Anonymous
Inactivewell…my son (he’s 3) never needed anything above slow flow cuz he sucked so hard, you know but he saw a speech therp. for over a year. (cuz he had a hearing loss from all the ear infections) so i dont think feeding would have to do with speech…im saying she doesnt care to work for her food. she is on stage 2 with ventair and its fast…i really dont think it needs checked out, i think she just wants to get what she wants when she wants it ya know…but if anyone knows differently we will see i guess.

KeymasterI only say speech, because in infants I think it’s speech pathologists that addresss the mouth muscles and feeding and such- it sounds ‘funny’ bcse infants aren’t talking
– maybe give a call to your son’s speech therapist and see what s/he says – maybe she can recommend someone for infants? again, it might be as you say that she just wants to eat
, but there have been babies on this board who got a lot of great help from speech pathologists, etc…I truly do not know…July 14, 2007 at 4:30 pm #39243Anonymous
InactiveWe saw a speech therapist for Kate recently just to make sure her feeding problems weren’t related to something develpmental. I kept thinking to myself how silly it sounded for her to see a speech therapist but they were great and humored me when I naively asked exactly WHAT kind of therapy they would provide for a four-month old. They were actually from First Steps and it was free!I just wanted to cover all my bases. Anyway, just my experience!

InactiveHi there. I vaguely remember reading a post on this board once about babies using a fast flow nipple too soon and it causing some kind of oral problems with the muscles of the mouth/tongue etc. I wish I could remember the details…maybe someone else remembers.
I’m thinking that If she’s a lazy feeder and prefers a fast flow there could be a reason for that and maybe an evaluation like Laura mentioned would be a good idea. My doc suggested one for Myles and I let it go thinking it was weird too (to have a newborn evaluated by a speech therapist), but I wish I had done it because he had all kinds of problems and ended up giving up the bottle at 7 months of age. He’s fine now so it’s not a big deal, but if I had to do it again I would have had him evaluated.I don’t know much about the AR formula but have heard it works well for some babies.Good luck and welcome to the board!July 14, 2007 at 6:47 pm #39248Anonymous

InactiveWe tried the enfamil AR and Similac’s new one (whose name is escaping me). Unfortunately, Ben didn’t do well on either. I don’t know if it wasn’t thick enough or what but he had a lot of problems with it. I would definitely say it’d be worth a try since all of the calories, etc…are worked out with the formula. Oh, and another downside of the similac is that it’s only the ready to feed formula.
