InactiveWell, Ariella broke my glasses and I’ve been wearing contacts (since I”m too lazy to get my behind to the optician). I absolutely despise contacts as I’m not very comfortable wearing them for the whole day so I was thinking of LASIK and wondering if any of you had it done. I heard both positive and negative about it. What is your story?

InactiveMy sister had it a few years ago with great results. She used to wear really thick eyeglasses and now she wears nothing!

InactiveNo, but I was seriously considering it at one time but heard being pg. can change your vision so I was waiting until after I was finished having kids and now that I am done, I’ve been too busy parenting to think about it!
A friend of mine had it with great results and one thing she did which was out of the norm was to have one eye done at a time, that way if there were any complications she would not be totally lost vision wise (she is an accountant like me and did not want to chance it since we are so dependant on our eyes!).
I have known people (old coworker) that had trouble at night after having it done especially with driving (bad glares).
Also, the same friend that had great results who was cautious had a friend whose procedure that did not go so well, he came here from out of state to the facility she used (top rated hospital here in GA) to try to correct his. I think the BIG thing to remember with this is to go to someone reputable even if it costs more $$$!!
If you really want to have it done, consider using your company’s flex plan (medical reimbursement) if you have access to one. You can set aside the money on a pretax basis to cover the cost and you can pay it back over the plan calendar year but can have it done earlier than that.
Good luck!!July 16, 2007 at 8:42 pm #39360Anonymous
InactiveTiffany, I also heard about the problems at night and pregnancy changing your vision. UGH, I guess I’ll have to wait.

InactiveI had LASIK done after I had Alexis since I was sick of putting on glasses to get my baby’s face in focus! And I did not want her to start pulling at my glasses once she got older. It was the best thing I have ever done! I also have hear about the vision changes but the eye doctor told me it was not very common and usually very little. I haven’t noticed a change after I had Taylor which was 2 years later. My eyes are still doing great! My vision was really bad before the surgery, now they are both 20/20. It is so nice not to have to fish around for glasses or trying to put in contacts when you are not awake yet! It is so nice to be able to open my eyes and see the clock! It truly was worth it! Definitely find a good doctor.

Keymasterdh got it done recently. he is so happy! he wishes he did it sooner!
my sister got it done as well. her vision was so bad she was almost legally blind in one eye. after a few years she actually found she needed glasses again, but I think just for reading and nothing at all like the glasses/contacts she originally had to have. she says it’s so worth it too! she had been wearing contacts since she was like 14 or something.July 19, 2007 at 10:20 am #39522Anonymous
InactiveI had it done after I had my first child prior to my last three and my vision hasn’t changed at all. It was about 7 years ago now and I am still 20/20. It is great!
Just go to a reputable place, don’t look for the best deal necessarily unless it goes along with a KNOWN doctor.Would do it again! -
