InactiveMan oh man, I am NOT looking forward to chicken pox!!! I’m so sorry but at least once he gets them, doesn’t that mean he won’t get them again?
I don’t really have any experience either with them but I remember my mom used to put calamine(sp?)lotion on me when I had them. I remember b/c the smell makes me sick
I hope he gets better fast and isn’t too uncomfortable!

InactiveLIke Claire said you can use the calimine lotion. You may also try an oatmeal bath to help soothe and possibly hydrocotisone cream as well. I don’t know of anything else off the top of my head… but hopefully he will get over this soon and never have them again….

InactiveThat’s what I remember too; calamine lotion and oatmeal baths. I wonder if you can give Benadryl for the itching? Not sure but maybe you can ask his doctor.

InactiveOh man! How did he get them? I think all that everyone else has mentioned sounds good. Just try to keep him from scratching them, as they cause scars so easily. I still have scars on my face from them!

InactivePoor guy! How’d he get them?
About the benadryl, I’d just follow the bottle directions for weight. Hope he’s feeling better soon.July 19, 2007 at 9:29 am #39512Anonymous
Inactivehey lori,
thanks
i have NO CLUE how he got them! he must have come in contact with them in like the grocery store or something.
and on the benadryl box it only says like ages 6 and up .. under it ask a doc.

InactiveI’m not sure if our benadryl is different, or just different labelling standards in Canada vs US. Our children’s liquid benadryl is diphenhydramine hydrochloride 6.25mg/tsp (5ml). Our bottle says children under 2 years or under 24 lbs- dosage= 2.5ml every 4-6 hours, max 2tsp per day; children 25-5 years or 24-48lbs- dosage= 5ml (1tsp) every 4-6 hours, max 4tsp per day.

InactiveMine says ask a doctor for kids under six too. I think I found the dosing on the Dr. Sear’s site that Larua always posts. I asked a pharmacist once too to compare and it was the same but that was a while ago. I think it was 1/2 a teaspoon for Myles when he was a year, but I can’t say for sure. Maybe do a search and see if you can find that Dr. Sears’s site.

Inactiveif he is not scratching, you’ve got it made. give him a little ibuprofin for fever and keep him clean to avoid infection. i’ve heard of some of the remedies that the other ladies suggested, but i never tried them with my kids. daisy was the only one that seemed miserable when she had chicken pox, but she was only about 9 months old and had TONS of TINY pox. we gave her periactin for the itching—-don’t remember if it helped or not. my other kids just hardly seemed bothered when they had chicken pox.

Inactive3/4 teaspoon for 21 pounds. we should remember that for the future, i do remember other moms asking often.
and i know i am lucky that he isnt scratching, but today he woke up with maybe a million more! even on private parts, its so sad. and last night he whined all night, so maybe the benadryl might help tonight!

InactivePoor guy! Hope the benadryl helps. Funny that our labels are different than yours.
