Hello everyone. My daughter Turi, is now 4 and a half months old. When she was six weeks old, we rushed her to the hospital because we thought that she was having seizures. She would stiffen up her arms and legs, her bottom of her face would go straight (like a grimace) and then she would scream in pain after wards. She also was making some really wierd ‘snorting’ noises, and she was constantly catching her breath, like you do after a big cry???? Anyways, they could not find anything wrong with her after being in the hospital for three days, all MRI’s and EEG’s came back normal. And we brought her home. She was perfect up until June 24th, when she was just over four months old. She started with just a very big, and it seemed that she was in pain, and just cried and cried. That day, she started with these same “Seizures” again, but this time wasnt crying out in pain, and not really stiffening her body up so much. These were occuring every few minutes. And she still had the same ‘snorting’ noises. I went with her to my neighbors, and she suspected that it was gas issues. Turi had lots of gas and was burping and she settled right down, but still had the face stiffening and the noises. The next day, she was perfect. I stayed up with her all night just to make sure that she kept breathing. All was well since. Three days ago, she started screaming, appeared to be in pain, and this all started again. However, she did not poop that day, and we could hear her insides just churning. And it seemed like everytime she had one of these episodes, which ranged sometimes once every two minutes, to once every ten minutes, right afterwards she would have a burp. Her stomach felt very hard, so I tried a suppository on her, which did nothing, until the next morning when she finally had a huge crap, and it was a normal poop, the ‘seedy’ breastfed ones, earlier this week they were very dark….I had tried to put a bit of formula in her breastmilk, and I’m sure that affected her poop, and possibly her guts. When she originally was in the hospital a few months ago, the idea of “reflux” was brought up to us, that this might have caused the episodes.
We took her to a neurologist today, and showed her the video of what was occuring with her yesterday, and she mentioned infantile spasm, but yet said that it didnt ‘match’ alot of her symptoms. Plus she also said that Turi is very overdeveloped for a baby her age. She also said the same for seizures, that it just all doesnt add up. Can anyone help me?? My husband and I are just so scared….and dont know where to look for help because we are not wanting to ‘overthink’ this. We went back to the hospital for another EEG, and all came back perfect, no signs of any seizures or infantile spasm. The neurologist said that now that they ‘think’ it may have something to do with her insides, possibly reflux. We are just at our wits end, trying to figure out WHAT is wrong with her, and why she does these ‘episodes’ with her face and body, and breathing, for at least 24 hours when this hits her. I am breastfeeding, pumping and making bottles. However, I always have about 2 litres of milk pumped, which I then mix all together and make up her bottles for the next day or two. So anything that I may have ate, would be SO diluted by using this method of doing her bottles. And she has at least 12 five ounce bottles of the exact same milk…so if something was bothering her, would not ALL the bottles then affect her?? It just doesnt make sense, and we really want our little girl to be ‘ok’. But we have no info on reflux, and how babies react to it.
