Inactivemy reflux has now gotten to the point where even drinking liquids will make me feel like i have something caught in my esophagus that i just can’t swallow down. i am starting to get just the slightest amount of discomfort in my chest—can’t quite call it pain. even without the pain, i am probably more miserable with my reflux than i have ever been—-i guess because the pain was only sporadic and this “stuck” sensation is there so much of the time. i finally broke down and had my prevacid filled again, but i find it difficult to take it first thing in the morning and then have to wait to take any food—especially since the painkillers i take seem to work a little better with food—and i take the pain killers almost first thing when i get up. i have heard differing opinions from docs as to whether or not the prevacid will affect how i absorb my other meds—you know, lack of stomache acid. i am also taking naproxene, which seems to be killing my stomache. i am wondering if it could be making the reflux worse since the naproxene will burn my throat sometimes if i don’t swallow it quick enough. i know this is just a whiny post.
sylvia is not sleeping particularly well tonight. she seems to be sick to her stomache. she has been wretching. it always makes me a tad nervous when she wretches. i worry about her wretching too much because the surgeon told us that wretching can undo the fundo. i gave her a rectal suppository for nausea—don’t think she was particularly thrilled with that, but she was too sleepy to put up a fight. i guess she is old enough that i could ask for something to give her orally for nausea.July 20, 2007 at 5:49 am #39599Anonymous

InactiveChristine, I’m so sorry that your reflux is causing so many problems for you. I would bet that the naproxen is causing more problems. I had to be on Tagamet when I was taking high doses of naproxen because it messed my stomach up so much. I’m guessing that you’ve tried this, but would over the counter zantac help? At least it would be something that you can take regardless of food. I’ve found that it helps my reflux quite a bit. Of course, mine is nowhere near the extreme that yours is.
I hope that Sylvia is feeling better as well!July 20, 2007 at 9:18 am #39608hellbennt

InactiveChristine,
Have you ever thought about having your esophagus stretched? It sounds like you might have a stricture or something that is causing the stuck in the throat feeling. That is just a thought. It has helped many people that I know.July 20, 2007 at 12:48 pm #39630Anonymous
InactiveOh no, Christine. That sounds terrible. Reflux sucks.

Inactivewhen i had my scope done in october they made several small cuts in my esophagus to widen the ring in it because i was having problems with food getting stuck—-not just the sensation of getting it stuck—-my esophagus was blocked once for about 45 minutes—that was so painful!!! i think i’m beginning to understand why some of these kids get feeding aversions. i don’t want to eat sometimes because of how it feels afterwards.
