DD was prescribed this Sunday. Since I have been giving it to her it seems like she is spitting up more.

Also the side affects listed on the bottle are kinda scary. May cause dizzyness/drowsiness, can cause depressing thoughts, etc. Yikes!!!

there are more scary side effects than those (i dont mean to scare you) but not all babies have them since every one responds different to medicines anyways my ds is on it since he was 4 months old and never show any side effect but the spitting up didnot dissapear and it seems like it got worse actually but the doc kept telling that it was working anyways i just took him off from medicines cause he still spits up now and then not as much but theres no pain or unconfort….

anyways you might want give it a try of course if your baby doesnt show any side effect but i guess if its not working and he is in pain you might want to ask for a different kind of medicine

Reglan is used to treat Delayed Gastric empting. If your child hasn’t been tested for it then I would be leary of using it. Reglan crosses the blood brain barrier. Most people think that you will see side effects within days but this is incorrect. Side effects can accure after stopping the medication. With other drugs out there to use for DGE I would ask for testing. This is a very hot topic and remember this is my opinion. I am not trying to scare you but give you information.

some have reported good effects from using small doses (it seems we all tend to push for higher doses of PPIs, lol, but when it comes to reglan sometimes smaller doses than prescribed help)

and some have reported scary side effects…

My son was on Reglan briefly when he was first diagnosed with reflux. (I didn’t know about the side effects at the time) It seemed to help for a little while, but then stopped working. Later he was diagnosed with DGE and started on another motility med – Erythromycin. This helped his spitting up tremendously. So my point is, if your baby does have DGE you may want to ask to try another motility med and see if that helps. However, if the vomiting isn’t causing any problems like weight loss or aspiration, it may not be necessary to treat it at all. Good luck!

I was just prescibed Reglan and decided to give him his first dose this morning. I am going to stop and request a different medicine 🙂
