InactiveHi,
My 4 1/2 month old had been on Zantac for the last 3 months. One week ago our doctor said we should try a PPI (Prevacid) to see if it would help control the volume and frequency of her spit up since she spits up about 60 times a day.She was sleeping a decent amount with the Zantac, but now she is sleeping ALL the time. I feel like she is sleeping too much. Is being sleepy a side effect of the PPI’s or Prevacid?
Thanks,

Inactiveno, probably just a sign that she isn’t in pain anymore and can relax enough to sleep for good stretches. That would be my guess. Cooper didnt’ sleep well until we got him on the right meds.

InactiveI agree with Beth. Other people have posted the same thing. It’s like the babies are finally comfortable so they start trying to make up for all of that lost sleep!

InactiveI agree….it’s more likely that she’s feeling better and that’s why she’s sleeping better.

InactiveThat’s great that she’s more comfortable and able to sleep!

Inactivehi ladies,
thanks for all your comments. unfortunately i think the sleep thing was a fluke! yesterday she was back to 45 minute naps and last night she woke up all night long.i am really, really losing my mind. she has been spitting up all morning. the clear stuff with the white chunky stuff in it. it is 10 a.m. and she has already done this at least 20 times. is there anyone out there who has gotten through this? i can’t seem to find anyone who has dealt with this much actual spit up all the time and has gotten through it.
sorry to ramble. it’s just a bad morning!
thanks,

InactiveWe all know where you’re coming from. It’s awful. When Hailey went through bad vomitting stages (mostly she was a silent refluxer) we would cover the carpets with towels and blankets and keep lots of t-shirts on hand (for us and her). It was hard, but we got through it. You will too! Hang in there.

InactiveThe other thing I wanted to add- and I’m not sure if this will offer you hope, or not- is that she is really in the thick of it right now. Research has shown that reflux peaks at 4 months, meaning that it’s at it’s worst at 4-6 months. Then it gradually starts to decrease, with most babies outgrowing it by 9-12 months. This is especially true of heavy spitters who reflux due to an immature LES. Hopefully this means that while things are bad right now, they will get better for you soon. HUGS.

InactiveThanks, Lori, that is hopeful to think maybe we are in the worst of it at 4 1/2 months and she’ll start improving around 6. You aren’t kidding about the covering! I have a wardrobe of about 5 t-shirts and pairs of shorts that I wear every day. She throws up too much to go anywhere so we are mostly here and I just go through them all each day. I go through so many outfits, bibs, burp cloths, and towels for her each day I couldn’t even count. I have towels on the furniture and vinyl cloth on the floor but still we miss and there are many places that have been thrown up on. Unfortunately as diligent as I have tried to be, the whole place is starting to smell and our 2 year old carpet will probably need to be replaced when all of this is over. The couch has needed to be replaced anyway so we will just wait until the end of this and toss it because I don’t think anyone could stand the smell now. 🙂
