InactiveI noticed that when I start the PPI’s,, they work for 2-3 days and get progressively worse, does any one else have this experience?
My daughter is 7.5 mo and is 17lbs, she was 9 3 at birth and has silent reflux with major arching? Please helpRebeccaAugust 7, 2007 at 7:18 pm #40666Anonymous
InactiveRebecca,
You’re using the solutabs, right? Are you giving the solutabs on an empty stomach and then feeding her 30 minutes later? This is very important in getting the full effect of the Prevacid. Also, are you spacing the Carafate several hours away from the Prevacid? They should not be given too close together.August 7, 2007 at 7:46 pm #40668Anonymous
Inactiveyup on an empty stomach and carafate about 2.5 hrs from the solutabs,
which are better the solutabs or the capsules mixed with caracream, anyone know?August 7, 2007 at 8:01 pm #40669Anonymous
InactiveIs she eating a few ounces thirty minutes after the dose of Prevacid? The feeding 30 minutes later is what activates the drug.
As for what’s better, the capsules are trickier to administer because you have to open them and pour them over applesauce (I’m not sure how it’s made with caracream, but I know some babies on the board have been on that combo). Both forms of the med should be as effective, but the solutabs do contain some added ingredients which bother some babies. Is she worse after her dose?It does take about two weeks for most babies to get relief once they start on Prevacid, so maybe she just needs a little more time on it.I would think 2.5 hours would be long enough to wait between the Prevacid and the Carafate, but I don’t know for sure. It’s possible that she’s reacting to the formula you are feeding her. Lots of reflux babies are also MSPI (milk/soy protein intolerant). Have you tried a hypo formula like Alimentum? Or, are you b/feeding?August 7, 2007 at 10:19 pm #40680Anonymous
InactiveI am using formula; she isomil, she has also been diagnosed with delayed gastric emptying and is on erythromycin 2 ml three times a day, total she takes about 22 -24 ounces a day, is that enough to gain weight on?

InactiveIt sounds like she is eating enough, Adriana only took in 15-20 ounces at that age. She is 10 months and 18 lbs. I have heard that Erythromycin can cause stomach cramps. Adriana was diagnosed with DGE and I never put her on any meds. Oh, and once I started adding oatmeal to her bottles it seemed to help too, she will drink more if its thick.
Adriana is on Isomil too. But she could be allergic to soy. Have you tried a hypoallergenic formula or Neocate.August 8, 2007 at 8:10 am #40690hellbennt
Keymasterif you can get caracream: GO for it!!!!
you don’t have to time meds around food! we LOVe caracream in this house!

InactiveMy son only took 15-18 ounces of formula a day for a very long time and his weight gain was fine. I think babies with DGE don’t need as much food because what they eat sits in their stomachs so long allowing more nutrients to be absorbed. I’d just let her weight checks tell you if she’s getting enough.
Even my first born who did not have reflux or DGE only needed 25 ounces a day. Some babies don’t do well on soy because many babies who are intolerant to dairy are also intolerant to soy. Maybe a hypo formula like Alimentum would be better. -
