InactiveHelp I am a mother of three fantastic children. I have a 8 year old daughter and a 6 year old son both healthy. My latest addition is my daughter who is now 1 month old. She has reflux. One night she stopped breathing we went in an ambulance to the childrens hospital where we spent 3 days in ICU. My little girl has only gotten worse with her reflux since then. I finallly got a doctor to send me to a pedeatrician. My daughter also has an umbilical hernia which they will not fix until she is two years old. It was this surgon who is referring me to a pedeatrician. She spits up all day long and crys horribally, I won’y get into see this pediatrician until 4-6 weeks!!! What do I do until then I am afraid she is not gaining enough weight!! HELP! any suggestions. We are already setting her at an angle holding her upright after she eats but stll she spits up, more and more each day. I feel like no one cares or believes me. My in-laws think it is because I feed her too much. But I don’t she just has more feeds because she spits up so much ARGH what do I do. I am breast feeding so I let her eat as she likes, that is when she is not struggling to eat. I fel really hopeless.!

Please forgive my typing and spelling I am doing this with one hand the other is occupied with baby

InactiveHI and Welcome. You may want to try Cherry Mylanta Supreme if she is screaming in pain until you can get into to see the ped. You may see if someone will give you a prescription for Zantac to see if that helps with the pain and if that doesn’t work look into a PPI like prevacid. I would go to marci-kids.com to check out their info so that when you go to the doc you are armed with good info. I am sure that other moms will chime in as well.

KeymasterI am so sorry ‘they’ are making you watch your baby suffer like this!!!
I have a lot of info about breastfeeding a reflux baby from groupie intro- go to the main Forum page, then to the Introduce Yourself Forum and once there you’ll see a post at the top called ‘groupie intro’there’s a LOT of info there to help you- scroll down to the ‘breastfeeding’ section…are her stools green? stringy (mucousy)? frothy/foamy?or ‘normal’ breastfed baby stools? I ask bcse if you have OAL (overactive letdown) this can exacerbate reflux…I also ask bcse frequent green mucousy stools may indicate a protein intolerance or allergy, which you can address by changing your diet…another link to look for in ‘groupie intro’ is BABYWEARING. this SAVED us!!! you can hold your sweet baby and still manage to do a few things here & there- your arms are free
so glad you found us!~lauraAugust 9, 2007 at 7:54 pm #40785Anonymous
InactiveYou don’t have to answer this, but do you have a family doc that you trust? Family docs are more aware of reflux and know how bad it is since they have adult patients that can talk and tell them. Also, I would check out marci-kids.com before you go to any doc so that you are prepared. Be prepared to fight. No baby should live in pain, but far to often a doc will tell you to let your baby outgrow it.
As far as family goes, you are not alone. Far from it really. Most of us have had family members that didn’t believe us and thought it was something we were doing wrong. Most of the time they think you are spoiling baby and that is their problem. Just know that here is a place where we know and understand what you are going through. Any time you need to vent or have questions we are here.

InactiveGosh I am sooooo sorry you are going through this. Shelby is right though, WE are here for you and totally know how you feel. My parents have always accused me of exaggerating my daughter’s symptoms and friends just don’t understand what you go through with a baby with reflux. It’s one of the hardest things
We had to go through two peds before one would look me in the face and LISTEN. Sometimes you really have to push. You are your baby’s only advocate, all they can do is cry. The great thing though is you’re here. You’ve found us!!! And these moms have so much support and helpful information to give.
You’re not alone.I’m still bf my daughter and I was hanging on by a thread for a looooong time but with the right dose/meds,things can really turn around.
They did for my daughter and I and it’s worth the buckets of tears and exhaustion believe me.Don’t let those doctors make you doubt yourself about the well-being of your lo. Your mommy instinct is more accurate than anyone with a PH.D. I think anyways. You can do this,I’ll be praying or you

InactiveThank you for taking the time to write. It really does help knowing that someone outhere cares. My hubby is great but from a mom point of view nothing even comes close especially when he cannot feed her and that is what this problem really is all about. So again thank you and God Bless.

InactiveHi and welcome. I am so sorry you are going through all of this! I’m glad you have found this forum. Hopefully you realize that you are not alone!
I know Laura (hellbent) asked earlier, but what are your dd’s stools like? It is probably wierd to consider describing poops here, but if you tell us about them, it may help us point you toward other things possibly contributing to her misery. (Overactive letdown – OAL, milk protein intolerance – MSPI, etc.)
Another question: Does your dd have any rashes anywhere? This too can be a symptom of MSPI which can greatly contribute to reflux.Have you tried having her sleep on an incline? Does this help at all?I know you must feel stretched beyond your limits right now. However, you might really benefit from the information and the reassurance and validation of your feelings in the book “Colic Solved” by Dr. Bryan Vartabedian. He says that too many people are too quick to say that a miserable baby has “colic” and that most of these highly distressed infants are actually dealing with reflux and milk protein intolerance. Some of the information may also help you be better prepared for your dr’s visit when it finally comes!Hope this helps and hope that you are having a “good” day today/tonight.DianneAugust 13, 2007 at 1:59 pm #41000Anonymous
