InactiveHi Ladies! Well, Peyton started daycare on Monday. He has not been eating hardly anything at the daycare since he started. It has only been 4 days but it makes me worried, I would like to think that it’s only because he’s adjusting and he’ll get better.
Peyton is a really good eater and I have been exclusively breastfeeding him for 3 months. I did introduce the bottle 6 weeks before returning to work and he was able to take it although I didn’t use the bottle alot, just here and there. The most he’s taken at daycare had been 6 ounces in 7 hours and the least had been 2 oz. I am still pumping and putting breastmilk in the bottle. I have noticed that he has started to make up for it by nursing alot when he gets home. The ladies say that he’ll start eating and ounce or two then start fussing. I know it’s not his reflux because it has been under control lately. I am just worried, I would love any advice. RIght now he’s using the NUK orthodontic nipple and bottle. I’m sure he’ll be fine but you just hate to think your baby is not eating while your away at work, talk about a guilt trip
Thanks in advanceAbyPeyton 5/7/07August 17, 2007 at 10:25 am #41275Anonymous
InactivePoor mommy.
Like it’s not hard enough to go off to work and leave your baby in the first place!I’m sure it’s just that he perfers mommy to the bottle. Can you get away from work once and go to the center to see if he will nurse there? If he does then you can be pretty sure it’s the bottle that he’s not liking very much and not something else.Maybe a different bottle or nipple?
Could it be that they are not warming it to a temperature he likes? Some babies are very particular about that.
Another possibility is that he’s swallowing a lot of air with the bottle and so he feels full. That’s why a different bottle or nipple may help.I hope you get it worked out soon and he starts eating well at daycare.August 17, 2007 at 1:50 pm #41284Anonymous
InactiveMy thoughts are similar to Christine’s. Some babies are very particular about the temperature of their bottle and the type of bottle that they will take. Good luck!

Keymasterso as not to waste your precious pumped milk, can you send more bottles w/ smaller amounts in them? that way what isn’t used can be used the next day?
I’ve always had great success with playtex drop-ins, but if he’s used to the bottles you’re using then I wouldn’t go switching…it’s true that he perhaps is making up for what he misses at daycare by nursing more at home, I think it’s called cluster feeding when they nurse on & off over a period of time- usually it’s the evenings…but of course you want him to drink at daycare! I feel so badly for you guys!here’s a ‘milk calculator’ where you can figure out how many ounces of expresed milk your baby should be getting http://www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkcalc.html#calculatorI just clicked on the link (I had it saved as a link so I haven’t looked at it in quite some time) & there’s some really helpful info & explanations- look for ‘reverse cycling’ I think it’s called- sounds what your baby is doing& maybe this is helpful?I belong to a LOT of Yahoo groups- when you join one, click the option for ‘Daily Digest” this way you get the day’s posts right to your inbox of your email to read- if you want to post a question/response, then you go to the web address, log on & post there…

InactiveHi! Peyton is doing better with eating at daycare! Last Friday the ladies warmed the bottle in a little bottle warmer instead of just a pan of water. I guess it wasn’t warm enough before. Also, he seems to favor one of the ladies, which is fine and she said that she turned him toward her chest and put his head really close to her while she fed him, simulating breastfeeding positioning. He still needs coaxing to finish his bottles but he finishes them!
I am so glad. I’m also so glad that I won’t have to go experimenting with different bottles and nipples again, which can get expensive! Hopefully in time he’ll be a pro at the bottle!AbyAugust 20, 2007 at 8:30 pm #41452Anonymous
