InactiveSo Cooper has been on solids now for alittle over a month. We have done all the stage 1 veggies and are on our last stage1 fruit (I omited Prunes as we have no problems with pooping) and so far so good. I am going to add Oatmeal cereal on Sept 3rd as he has not had any cereal of any form b/c of his MSPI. I am wondering when I start finger foods and which ones do I start since he has MSPI and there are so many straches out there that have milk or soy in them. Any moms with older ones who have/had MSPI have any suggestions of what to try and when I would really appreciate it. He is sitting independently and can get himself to sitting from his belly and I suspect he will be crawling anyday now. He is very determined. Right now he only gets solids 2x/day but when I add the cereal we will be at 3x/day and if I do finger foods we may go to 4x/day, I just don’t know when to start them. TIA.

InactiveSarah was closer to 8 months when we started Gerber Puffs and Cheerios. She did great with all hidden dairy but you have to be careful of that with some MSPI babies. You may be able to try finger food sooner…every baby is so different!

KeymasterI started w/ ari at about 6 & 1/2 months bcse he was showing interest in food, yet he wanted NOTHING to do w/ purees…I posted a photo somewhere of him eating a banana at 7 months…
so you can try puffs or cheerios (maybe puffed rice, actually bcse of the mspi?) now & see what happens- if he gags and seems uncomfprtable, then try again lateryou can just give chunks of avocado, sweet potato, banana- it’s MESSY and, very little will make it to his mouth, but if it does, just see what happens…some babies are ‘gaggier’ than others- he might surprise you, though, and be FINE
…Ari seemed to ‘know’ to chew & he didnt even have teeth- it was so weird to see him go through the motions!to make yourself feel better, be ready to swoop the food out of his mouth if you think he’s uncomfortable/gagging/choking- use your pointer finger in the shape of a ‘hook’ & pull/sweep whatever it is out, back to front
I do this all the time w/ Ari, not bcse he’s choking on food, but bcse the kid thinks he’s a goat & eats everything off the floor (paper, fuzz, you name it!) !!!these sites gave me inspiration to just give solids/finger foods early:cons of pureees (I’m not against purees! Ari finally will eat them, LOL): http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,21924101-5006007,00.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby-led_weaning

Inactive“They” say that you should start cheerios and puffs and other finger foods (tolerated by an mspi baby of course) when they are crawling up on their knees, belly off of the floor. I gave Kaden puffs around 6.5 mos think and he wasn’t quite crawling yet but sat up unassisted really well and was so intersted in food like Cooper so I trusted that he was ready and he did fine. I just monitored him really closely. I think it is different for each baby. For Landen, we may wait another month until we’ve tried all of the purees since he is just now doing good with them. I don’t want to mess things up for him. lol Good luck with whatever you decide.

Inactiveand on second thought with the purees (I just read part of Laura’s first article posted..lol) maybe we’ll just move on to small chunks of soft fruits and boiled veggies

InactiveWith Sarah, we started at around 6 months. But she was also from the day when you started solids at 4 months, so she already had some experience in that department. Hailey started aroun 8-9 months- more dictated by her feeding therapy than anything else.
