InactiveMy older son Grffin, seems to think that Owen is just as strong as he is now that Owen is getting around more and starting to stand on his own.
I have tried time out and other forms of punishing him, but he doesn’t seem to care about the consequences. Yesterday, he burried him under all of the couch pillows in a corner while I was showering and I was of course helpless to do anything.Last night, I was looking in Owens mouth and his top two teeth are trying to come in, one is purple and I think it’s bruised b/c of something that Griffin probably did to him!
When I was downstairs yesterday, I heard crying and when I asked Grffin what happened he said they were playing pillow tackle! Which means Owen was getting the snot beat out of him with pillows……..I don’t want to discourage him from playing with Owen, because eventually it would be nice if they played together. It just seems that all the games he chooses are not working. I feel like all I ever do is yell at him to knock it off!
Any ideas! I get sick of having to monitor every game that goes on, but I guess that may be my only option for awhile!August 31, 2007 at 9:43 am #41962Anonymous
InactiveBoy, I feel your pain! Carter is about 25 lbs so he “looks” like a big boy, but with his issues, he can not stand on his own at all! Dylan thinks of him like an “equal” so he definitly plays rough. It is tough, but we don’t ever leave them alone in the room together right now for that reason. It is tough, and there are days that I am taking a shower at night after David gets home because I can’t seem to get it done before our au pair starts work and when I have to start working.
Hang in there. Hopefully Owen will start fighting back a little LOL! Carter does now and it is not something we should laugh at, but it is a little bit of pay back and reality that it does hurt when someone plays rough with you….Hopefully it will pass soon!!August 31, 2007 at 10:55 am #41966Anonymous
InactiveOur girls are not much better! Alexis is always on the sneak attack and Taylor still is not very sturdy on her feet yet! Taylor too gets the daylights beaten out of her! I really try not to leave them alone as much as I can but sometime it just happens and it does not take long for Alexis to “play” with Taylor! But what goes around comes around! I came out of the bathroom to crying and screaming, ready to yell at Alexis but to find out that Taylor was on top of Alexis on the the little couch and pinning her down and biting her! Alexis never bite anyone and Taylor rarely bites unless you put your finger in her mouth. I guess she just had enough! Well the biting incident stopped Alexis for about 10 minutes until she was on the attack again! Well, I guess siblings fight with each other but when it come to others picking on their sister/brother they step in and defend them!

InactiveIt’s funny hearing your stories because as we speak Griffin is in his room playing because he just can’t keep his hands off. Owen only has 2 teeth so biting doesn’t really hurt anyone, but he really tries to bite if Griffin takes something or gets too rough with him. I’ve never had a biter before, so I really don’t want that habit to last either, but I guess around here, you call it survival of the strongest and that’s his only way of defending himself!
I’m sure there are more of those (black eye) to come in my household!!!August 31, 2007 at 2:35 pm #41977Anonymous
InactiveI have a hard time trying to explain to Kaelyn that she’s hurting Alex. It’s especially hard when Alex is smiling like it’s great fun while Kaelyn is hitting, pushing, smothering her.

Inactiveelliot is 2 years older than sammie—-but sammie is hell on wheels. i remember him running from her in fear when they were both pretty little—she obviously had the upper hand. i also remember driving with the two of them in the back seat and hearing sammie threaten to beat elliot to a “bloody pulp”. she couldn’t have been more than 2 or 3 at the time. sometimes it is the younger ones that rule the roost.

InactiveWe are in the same place here. It breaks my heart to see Luke picking on Justice. I have gotten to the point where I make Luke go to his room. I have also taught Luke to tell me if he needs help. A lot of times he is hitting Justice because Justice is in his way or playing with something he doesn’t want him to. I am trying to help them work it out. Justice also bites because he doesn’t know any other way to defend himself. Sometimes I pretend not to see because I feel like big brother needs to know that little brother can fight back. Things are getting a little better now that I am teaching Luke to use his words, but there are days that I just want to lock him in his room the entire day.

Keymastersame things going on here! I actually got down & yelled at jonah’s knees and feet today!!
I said, “knees! you better stay away from Ari because you are going to get jonah into BIG TROUBLE!!” I was at a loss bcse i also have tried everything!!I say jonah, “your feet are going to get you into TIME OUT. do you want to be in time out?” (response is a sigh “no”). “well, then you better work on making better choices and decisions!!!”in the car (their seats are next to each other in dh’s car) I tell jonah “hands on you knees!” so that he can stop reaching over to torment Ari…I actually hope Ari retaliates soooon (shhhh
)then, there are times when jonah is sweet and tries to feed ari goldfish (we love the baby goldfish around here, lol) or looks out after him…September 2, 2007 at 6:09 pm #42075Anonymous
InactiveThanks ladies!
Laura- you always give me a good laugh! That’s a great idea though, yelling at the hands and feet that are causing the problem instead of the child! It does seem I’m always yelling at him for something otherwise. I’ve even gotten sick of hearing myself yell out his name!I feel bad for him sometimes b/c he is the oldest of grandchildren on DH’s side and second is a girl and then Owen. In-laws have the worlds smallest house and when everyone is there, he has nowere to take away his toys and get away from the little ones. And because he is a boy, he seems to get the “ladies first” from gma and gpa or he has to share everything, even if the littler ones aren’t really capapble of playing what he is, and that kind of annoys me.We were just there this weekend and he and DH are still there until tomorrow. Last night my niece threw a big fit because Griffin said he wanted to go out and swing and then she wanted to swing but there is only one swing. Her mom didn’t want to take her outside and I just finally had to side with Griffin, he had asked first and she always wants to do whatever he wants to do. She cried and SCREAMED for a LONG time, we could hear her outside. Then to make matters worse, her mom doesn’t really follow through with her threats. I feel like sometimes I’m forever yelling at him and then others, I let him get away with somethings because I feel like I’m always saying no.The one thing I really reprimand him for is picking up Owen and moving him somewhere. I know he is just watching what I do and trying to solve it himself, but not a great idea! He has done better about saying I need you to move Owen, or he goes to his room or downstairs without Owen.I’m sure it’s just the beginning of many wars btwn brothers! -
