Hi there. I’m sorry to hear that your little one is having a hard time. My guess is that likely her prilosec dose is too low, and that if it’s a compound, it’s not being made properly. Compounds are notoriously made incorrectly. (But I’m definitely bias b/c we had a bad experience with that). Also, since you say that your doc doesn’t know much about reflux, I’d guess that he also gave a very low dose of PPI. Check out http://www.marci-kids.com for some dosing guidelines- the recommended doses on that site are pretty much the highest I’ve ever heard of, but it gives you an idea of where to aim.
Laura posted a link for you in your other thread about how to properly compound PPIs. If the prilosec is a compound, is there any flavour in it? How much is she on a day? How many mg/ml is the solution.
If it’s a capsule that you break open, then it needs to be given on an empty stomach and followed with a meal 30 minutes later- only the capsule, not the compound.
I personally would go with zegerid over prilosec, but I’ve never tried zegerid, just heard good results on the site. Otherwise, I’d go with prevacid solutabs… they’re easy to give, only hard part is that you have to wait the 30 minutes before feeding. Good luck. And about your question from your other thread- no it doesn’t matter if you give it at the same time of day or not, but most people doing two doses choose morning and then evening/before bed, and people doing three doses usually add in a midday dose.
