Inactivehi gals—–we got our house sold (barring some strange unforseen complication) and we have to be out in 2 weeks. i am now getting almost panicky and very sentimental about leaving my house. is this normal??? we have lived here for a little over 18 years. i have been passively trying to find a bigger home for the last 9 years. we had found one 9 years ago that we loved. it was really big and had just under 2 acres and was only a little bit out of town. we just could not get our house sold before someone made an offer on that other house. it took me quite awhile to get over that house. i have complained and complained about the lack of space and lack of closets in my house for so many years, but it has still been home for a LONG time. it is kind of hard to leave my big yard, too, but i really cannot keep up with it very well and kevin does not really want a big yard. i have grassed my garden in to make it smaller, twice, and this year i actually resorted to running the lawn mower over the weeds in sections where there were only weeds. i have fruit trees, but they have hardly ever been sprayed over the years—-so the fruit has usually been wormy. we do have a wonderful nectarine tree that is pretty self-sufficient without my help—but the kids don’t particularly like canned nectarines because of the skins. my mom’s yard is big enough for me to put in raised gardens and dwarf fruit trees—all of which i think i could probably take care of better since they would be smaller. why am i having such a difficult time with this???
oh yeah, to make things worse, i decided to try going back on an antidepressant last week—but working with our family doc instead of my obgyn (who has treated me for years) i have had no antidepressants in my system for 2 months and i had forgotten how difficult the side effects are for me. the doc started me higher than my other doc used to. my skin was crawling and i was having horrible anxiety—shortness of breath, pounding heart, the shakes—then i got sick. don’t know if it was the meds or a bug, but i have lost 10 lbs in the last week. i think between the meds and the move, my anxiety level is almost at a breaking point. i quit the antidepressant and i am now taking xanax until i can get into another doctor—but that is not until oct. 23.kevieb 2007-09-28 11:47:02 September 28, 2007 at 11:57 am #43438Anonymous

Oh my goodness, my heart is with you.
I don’t think it’s odd at all that you’re feeling so anxious about the move and on top of that starting a new med!!! Geez, that’s enough to break anyone! I’m finally on an anti-anxiety med that works but I had many many failed attempts with trials in the past.
It’s so tricky to find the right one on the right dose. Ugh. It sounds like maybe you should talk to your doc about this one because if you feel too funny, how in the world is that going to ease your mind you know?About the move, of course you’re feeling scared and overwhelmed. You’re a mother of NINE(
) and been in that house for EIGHTEEN YEARS!!! That house has soooo many memories for you and your kids. I’d type more but the baby’s waking up but here’s a big hug. Hang in there!

InactiveChristine,
I think it’s definitely normal to feel sentimental about moving. It’s always exciting to move to a new place, but you have so many memories in the old place that it becomes a part of you – even more so after 18 years, I’m sure. I always feel both excited and sad when I move. Anyway, good luck with everything. I hope the move goes smoothly and you get used to your new medicine soon.

InactiveTotally normal feelings, but so excited for you!!! This is a great thing for you and the family. Are the children excited for more space? Some day you will have LOTS of grandchildren and be so excited to have room for them all.
My best wishes for an amazing move. Hang in there, though. I think your feelings are totally normal!!!September 28, 2007 at 3:08 pm #43449Anonymous
InactiveCongrats on the move, I know you were worried about it from another post. Anxiety and sadness are normal esp since you have lived there so long. I moved all the time as a child and so I don’t quite understand, but dh grew up in the same house that his parents still live in which just happens to be less than a mile from where we are right now and he always talks about buying the house when they are ready to downsize, so I know how people can grow attached to houses/homes. You have many memories, both good and bad and I am sure. Just take your time and if you need to cry/scream/whatever to get through it, then I say go for it, whatever works. Good Luck, let us know how the move goes. I am so happy for you.

I think that i would be anxious too if i were in your shoes… a move is always stressful, brings out lots of memories/feelings… but i will pray that all goes smoothly with yours and that you settle in quickly. From your other posts it seems like the house will be just perfect!!Good luckSeptember 28, 2007 at 8:07 pm #43460Anonymous
InactiveI’d be nervous about moving now, and we’ve only lived in this house for six years! It’s totally normal. Plus, two weeks is a really quick turnaround, so it doesn’t give you a lot of adjustment time. I’m sure that you’ll love having more space (and closets!) Good luck!

InactiveChristine,
I think that everyone gets sentimental about leaving their home, and most people get anxious from all the stress associated with moving… I guess that’s why it ranks among the top 5 most stressful life events. The new house sounds great though, so I’m sure once you settle in, you’ll appreciate all the extra space for the clan.HUGS. -
