InactiveI just purchased the book, “No Cry Sleep Solution” I’ve started to read it and am eager to give it a try. I was wondering what other people’s experience or success has been like with this approach to sleep training. I haven’t done Cry It Out but I don’t think I’d follow through anyway. Thanks in advice

Keymasterfor this search I used just the letters pantl
to do a search: there’s the ‘search’ button located in the upper right hand corner of the screen
you put the key word/s you’re searching for
then you choose “Topic Subject” from the drop- down menu of “Search In”
then I like to choose “All Forums” from the drop- down menu of “Search Forum”
then I like to choose “Topic Start Date” from the drop- down menu of “Sort Results By” (this way I get all the posts from the past that might help me)

InactiveIt did’nt work for us, but then again, I never could read the whole book. I just skimmed as much as I could. I have heard of other moms on here that it did work for. We ended up doing our own method. I am always willing to share if nothing else works for you. My method takes a lot of time and patients though. Of course, if you read my other posts, we are back to getting up about 3 times a night, but I really think he is teething or in some sort of pain.

InactiveWorked great for us, but takes more time and patience than CIO. If CIO is not your style or hasn’t worked for you (both our gerdlings puked within a couple minutes if I ever left them to CIO), then I recommend this as a good option.

InactiveI did something I saw on The Nanny show. I sat on his room on the floor and yes he cried a little, but not like CIO and then each night I got further and further away from his crib until about 10 days in, I just put him in bed and he went to sleep on his own. He was about 10 mo old then, and everything was “under control” at that point.
He also would puke if I let him cry too long and that was just too much having to change everything and him!January 4, 2008 at 8:48 am #46923Anonymous
InactiveI am new to this forum and yes a first time mom. My child, recently just turned 1-year old and was dignaosed with reflux at 2 months of age.
We are running into a situation where she will not sleep the entire night through – she wakes up and wants to be held and/or rocked back to sleep or wants another bottle.
My doctor has told me not give her a bottle at night anymore despite her requests and to let her cry. I was told to put her in her bed still somewhat or completly awake and let her cry herself to sleep. I am finding both of these really hard to do; I feel like I am neglecting my child or something especially when she starts chocking from too much crying. The doctor said it would cause her some discomfort with her reflux for approx a week or so; at least until she is able to go to sleep on her own. I have been letting her cry for longer periods before responding to her but can’t bare to not respond at all.
I have purchased the “No Sleep Solution” book but haven’t read it yet. My child is very loving – loves to give hugs. I am worried that she will stop this if I do not respond to her when she cries. Any advise would be helpful. wendyml2008-01-04 08:49:31

InactiveI have heard that babies can be that way after cio. My older son is that way and we did do cio. I refused to do it with my second. I prayed about what I needed to do with him and also got some books from the library. I can’t say anything I read really helped much, but I have heard Weisbluths book is a good one. Apparently he gives different methods. I could be wrong about that though. It seems like I read his book and was turned off by it, but I can’t remember for sure.
What I did. First I made sure my lo was not in any pain. He had outgrown his reflux at 9 months and at 10 months I started the gentle sleep training. Basically I would wait until I knew he was tired and then start the process. I would lay him down and he would of course cry a little because he wanted me to nurse him to sleep. He would stand up or get up on his knees and I would lay him back down. Once he would lay still, which took a long time, I would rub his lower back in large circles or if he was on his back I would rub his belly or head. This is not an easy way of doing sleep training, but it was easier for me than letting him cry it out. There were times I would just sit down in his room and let him cry a little because it wore me out. I personally think there is a big difference between letting a baby cry it out alone and letting a baby cry it out with you in the room. I had set out to do cio with me in the room, but honestly I couldn’t take it. So, I then started having him lay back down. There were many times I did have to leave the room because I felt like I was going to lose it. I would get myself back together and then go back. It took hours at first to get him to go to sleep only for him to wake up in an hour. It was tireing, but so worth every minute of it. The best thing I did was to keep a sleep log so I could see his progress. If I hadn’t done that I would have given up, but looking at it I could see his progress. I also slept in the room with him on a mattress. I had my older son sleep in the room with husband and they had a sound machine going in their room so they never heard him. I think it all took about 2 weeks to a month before he was only waking once a night. You have to stick to it though. I got lax because of having another son and I started letting him nurse to sleep again. Now he is wanting to be in bed with us, but at least I put him in bed with us and he goes to sleep and stays asleep. Before he would wake every hour even in bed with us. I hope I’m not leaving anything out. I really should have written it all down. If you decide to try it you can always pm me and I can help you through it.January 4, 2008 at 10:14 am #46928Anonymous
InactiveSorry, I just found one of my other posts about the same thing and I’ll post it here. There is a post above yours called sleep and napping or something like that and that mom was also having trouble and was getting the no cry sleep solution. You could always pm her too and see what worked for her.

KeymasterI’ve been told by a parenting group leader (lactation consultant) that you shouldn’t let your baby cry any more than her/his weight in minutes…so if baby is 20lbs then s/he shouldn’t cry any more than 20 minutes…
this is only to say IF someone decides to let their baby cry.I tried CIO for naps w/ jonah & it didn’t work…it did work for night time, BUT his reflux was TOTALLY under control AND I did an ‘experiment’ to find out if he was hungry or not (had dh go in w/ milk & jonah just took a sip and then put his head back down to be held/rocked- so then we knew he wasn’t hungry- I sent dh in bcse I was nursing at the time & he for sure would have nursed regardless if he was hungry or not)- so all of this to say: yes, we did CIO at night, not for initially going to sleep, but for one night waking (about 2am or 3 am)…and I only let him cry his weight in minutes & then one of us would go in…I did not do this w/ Ari. Something about the second child, LOL! he didn’t have reflux (thank god!) but I just couldn’t stand to let him cry it out…I did my own gentle version with him- patting, etc…nowadays he’s up super early because of his molars and I-teeth coming in
