Hi. My prior ‘failure to thrive’ twin girl refluxer was first on prevacid. This worked for a while and then back to refluxing. Then we switched to prilosec. This too seemed to work for a while and then it stopped. I assumed it was the fact that it was compounded that caused it to stop working. So we switched to zegerid and are on a marci-kids dosage. She has been on it for 1 month. Now i’m beginning to see signs of reflux again. She’s arching, turning her head to the right, burying her head, refusing the bottle outright. Could it be that she is developing a resistance to the medicine after a while? Anyone else experience this? Any solutions/ideas? Thanks

has she gained weight at all? there was a time that jonah outgrew his dose at every little weight gain & his meds needed to be increased…

I’m pretty on top of weight gain and keeping up with marci-kids and talking to dr. phillips. She is no longer ‘failure to thrive’ thanks to the meds but it just seems that they are not working ‘as well’ as before.

re the weight gain and meds—its kinda hard to determine exactly how much she is getting. For example, with the compounded meds (whihc thankfully we no longer use), we drew up in syringe her dose and a little. Still there always remained some residue and she would foam some out of her mouth, etc. With the zegerid, she takes it in a bottle with 5 cc of breast milk. But there is always some left in the nipple that won’t go down or some on the side of the bottle. I always try to overcompensate a little for this.

hm…well the only other thing to do would be to try protonix or nexium and see if she does any better on another PPI

there are some who report better success w/ one PPI over another…

or, you could add zantac (or tagament or axid or pepcid) also- just make sure to give 4hrs seperate from the PPI

I have links for zantac and pepsid dosing…
