Zegerid, Zantac, Prevacid

Hi,

I’ve done tons of reading on here, but still have some questions. Joshua and Danielle are currently taking Zantac twice a day (though I think the dose is now too low) and were just put on Prevacid twice a day as well. I’m spacing them at least 4 hours apart as I read to do here. I don’t know how you ladies do it – managing the timing is a full time job!

Anyway, they’ve been on Prevacid since Tuesday and I’m thinking of asking to move to Zegerid next Tuesday to assist with getting all the med in. Will I lose the one week progress that I’ve made with the Prevacid, though? That is, I know that it takes two weeks for the PPI’s to kick in – do I start all over with Zegerid? I’d hate to do that to my little ones!

Also, I know the Zegerid is immediate release and can be taken without regard to meals… does it still need to be spaced 4 hours from the Zantac? If not, how do you manage to space two doses of Zantac a day with 3 doses of Zegerid?

My understanding of all these meds is that they impact the acid in the stomach – so the reflux is not as painful. But, is there anything that can be done to reduce or eliminate the reflux itself? While I’d do most anything to stop my babies from suffering the pain of the reflux and the damage to the esophagus, I’d like to do something so they don’t have to throw up at all! Even when it doesn’t seem to hurt, they get so upset when they reflux and it spews out their mouths and noses!
