InactiveCooper has been using a sippy cup now for about 2 months. He has never really cared for it but would drink maybe 1 oz or 2 out of it over the course of the day with me offering it 2-3 times during the day. The last several days he refuses to drink anything from it unless I have the top off and he can drink “like a big boy” does this mean we just need to stop trying to use the sippy? I am so confused. He is trying to grow up way too fast.

InactiveNiko (2 weeks older than Cooper) is the same way. She loves the sippy cup, but mostly to play with. for drinking, a plastic cup seems to be what she wants. it’s really messy as half of it ends up down her shirt, but we’re used to costume changes at this point.

Keymastertry a straw cup? not sure what to say about him not wanting to use the sippy, but an ice cube in there always adds the fun back to it for my little ones
– it’s fun to clang around with an ice cube…October 8, 2007 at 9:17 pm #43971Anonymous
InactiveEvie (two weeks younger than Cooper) is the same too. We have an empty sippy cup in her toy box. And she also always tries to drink from my glass. I think in her case, she really just doesn’t like juice. I’ve heard it’s not recommended to put juice in a bottle, but at least that way, you’d be able to see if it’s the juice he doesn’t like. I would try Laura’s idea and see if the ice cube puts a little new novelty into it. Good Luck!

InactiveI would keep offering it to him but don’t be discouraged if he isn’t too terribly interested from time to time. My son Ben hated the sippy cup and never really mastered drinking from it until after his first birthday. Some little ones love them and are off bottles and on to sippy cups by the time they’re one, and some aren’t. I wouldn’t worry about his distaste for it yet at this age – I know with Ben (my first child) I always felt pressured into having him be at the same stages as other little ones his age, or felt like he should be doing exactly what the books say they should be doing at a certain age. Now with my second, I see how drastically different every child is, so I’m much more relaxed at letting Paige do things on her own schedule and try not to feel pressured or worried that she might not be developing at the “right” rate.

InactiveI have to agree with Sherri and keep offering to him. Kendra never like her zippy cup with the lid on, she however would drink form open cup. I have very good luck with thoe nubby zippy cup trainer. it comes with a spoon, a nipple a zipy cup, that you can adjust to “trian the LO to drink and eat form the spoon. it has no stopper so the fluid just comes out. of course it can be a littl emessy, but i din’t mind. I also use the honey beard straw cup. i bought from this website. Kendra likes it and drinks well from it. it took a couple of tries to help her figured it out, but she got it down.
this is what it looks like http://www.talktools.net/s.nl/it.A/id.771/.f?sc=2&category=722 i boought it from there.hope that helps.leoOctober 10, 2007 at 3:09 pm #44057Anonymous
InactiveBoth of my kids did/do this when they are teething. I think the sucking that they have to do really irriates the gums.

Inactive2 things to say:
Landen likes his sippy cup without the stopper in it. He got used to it this way when he had RSV and was so stuffy and too weak to drink from a bottle, so the nurses at the hospital told me to put pedialyte in a sippy cup without the stopper in it and now he prefers it this way. It’s messy, but he can get more out like that. I’m trying to get him used to using it with the stopper now.
Also, with Kaden, we had to just try different sippy cups til we found one he liked. We ended up with the Playtex first sipster and now he is using the playtex straw cups and coolster big kid tumblers. Every baby has their prefernces. Just a couple more ideas for you! InactiveAlana has never and still won’t drink from a sippy. We went straight to a straw cup and we have a couple of different ones- one she drinks water from and one she drinks milk from (she will not under any circumstances drink water out of the milk straw cup and vice versa). I might also try a straw one if you get the chance. A great advantage is if you are out and about they can drink from any kind of straw.
