I am just full of food issues today. We are going to start egg yolks here in a few weeks, still have a few fruits to finish trialing. My questions are:
Do you do a mashed yolk or scrambled yolk? Do you do a whole yolk or just 1/2? and how long do you trial? I was thinking 5 days or should I do longer for this one? TIA.
I waited on egg yolks until 9 months with my boys, but when we started them, I would boil an egg and give them the yolk mashed (I think I mixed it with a little breastmilk at first until they got used to the texture). Later I would just crumble the yolk on their high chair tray and let them eat the pieces. Sometimes I would just do a regular soft yolk fried egg and carefully break open the top and scoop out the yolk with a spoon.
Hey Beth… just wanted to chime in.. I did egg with Claire at about 9 months too, but the pediatrician told me at Ben’s 1 yr. visit that now the AAP is recommending to wait until they are 2 yrs. before giving egg! I know that seems like forever… the local allergists suggest that as long as the child doesn’t have any food allergies in the family, then you can try it at 18 months.
I’ve been cheating a bit and giving Ben food with egg in it, but I still haven’t tried straight egg yet.
