InactiveDoes anyone have any suggestions on helping keep the time change from totally messing us up. Cooper is super restless every morning from 5a-6:30, usually I cave in and put him in bed with us between 5:30-6 just to get a few more minutes of shut eye. I am terrified that this time change is going to have him waking for the day at 5:30 since we are “falling back” I can deal with “sprining forward” but I need help to make sure that we aren’t walking around like zombies anymore than we already are. TIA.

InactiveI literally said outloud “YOU AND ME BOTH!” when I read the title of your post! I am DREADING it! It was awful for us last year. Sarah went from waking at 7 to waking at 6am. I swear it’s taken a whole year just to get her to sleep in until 6:30 and now we’re back to square one! I am TERRIFIED that 6:00-6:45 is going to now be 5:00-5:45. UGH! I have been trying to push back her bedtime a little bit each night. I don’t know that it will make much difference but I’m trying to do SOMETHING. I guess I figure if we can get her to stay up a little later, then she’ll sleep in a little later…but she’s never followed along with that pattern. I swear the EARLIER she goes to bed the better and LONGER she’ll sleep in the morning. Nothing but sympathy and dread here! I hope it goes well for you guys!!!

InactiveCan you start now and just move them 15 minutes at a time? It will be darker longer, too. No good advice, just hoping that we have a smooth transition as well…..

InactiveYikes! I never thought about it that way. I’ve actually been having the opposite problem. We usually do our time change the first weekend of October, but this year they decided to coordinate with the US, and we’re still waiting. It’s SO pitch black outside here at 7am, that it’s impossible to get the kids out of bed! I can’t wait for the time change so it will be lighter in the morning at wakeup time. I didn’t really think that if they usually wake at 7, now the clock will say 6. I actually have found that it’s only the first couple of days that this actually happens. Then their routines form around the new time schedule and the wakeups change with them. On the plus side, you can fool them for the first few days and put them down to bed an hour earlier!
Good luck though. I hope you have a smooth transition.October 16, 2007 at 1:39 pm #44287Anonymous
InactiveI always really stressed about the time change, especially the first year with Owen, but we’ve never really had any trouble with it. It usually seems to just take a few days like everyone else and they adjust. All of their meal times will change right along with sleep times and it seems like it all just falls into place. Maybe we were lucky, but that’s been our experience anyway.
Believe me, we were so nervous about it we started putting Owen to bed a few minutes earlier for a few weeks out – basically acted as if the time had already changed by the time it was a few days before. I don’t know if that helped but we really had easy transitions.
Good luck!

KeymasterI am in the same boat!
I want to wean Ari, but I am one laaazy mama and it’s easy to go to him at 5:00am to nurse him (the only time a day that I still nurse him) so he’ll go back to sleep for a bit so I can get some sleeeep…I don’t know what I’ll do about the time change? give him a bottle? I rather doubt that will work
I think I’m going to be a zombie and be up early with him- my post is like Amy’s about bed time, etc…bummer!!let me know what you all are going to do?hellbennt2007-10-16 19:05:42
