Hi, I’m new. (: My name is Tasha.. and my baby’s name is Jason. He is 2 months old.
It’s been pretty clear since he was born that something has been very wrong with him. He cries WAY more than a normal baby, and way more than just a colicky baby. I read up on symptoms of GERD and he has nearly all of them.. I took him up to Children’s Hospital, because anytime I’d try and make an appointment for him to see his pediatrician they’d just let me see a nurse, and the most she told me to do was try Mylicon drops. She barely even looked at him or took into consideration what I was saying about the reflux.
So anyway, I got pushy, because Mylicon drops did nothing.. and he just seemed to be getting worse. I took him up to the hospital and this very nice doctor examined him and said he “might have a bit of reflux” and prescribed him 0.7 of Zantac. It worked for a little while.. but it just seemed to make him sleep more than anything. We stopped using it after about a month, but around the time we got it we also changed his formula to Prosobee Enfamil, because the regular Enfamil with Lipil seemed to make him spit up A LOT. But after awhile the Prosobee just began to make him outright VOMIT, constantly. We had even tried Enfamil Gentlease, which didn’t even make a difference whatsoever.
At his 2 month check-up I told his pediatrician about EVERYTHING, the vomiting, the zantac.. and I got really pushy about it. I had read on the marci-kids website that babies could grow a tolerance to Zantac within one week. I told him this and he said he’d never heard that before and basically shrugged it off. I also had heard a lot of good things about Prevacid, and I asked about it.. to which he just said, “well, all of those commercial drugs work the same.”
He ended up prescribing him 0.7 of Zantac, and 0.7 of Reglan. I’ve read HORRIBLE things about Reglan, that it’s basically useless and has terrible side effects. I don’t even want to try and give it to him if it’s just going to do more harm than good.
It makes me so mad that no one will really listen. I just want to print off the marci-kids page and send it to him, but I highly doubt it would do any good. I feel so sorry for my baby.. he is ALWAYS hungry and chewing on his hands and everytime I feed him he just throws it all back up. It makes me want to cry and I’m basically at my wits end. I just don’t even know anymore.. a little help would be sooo soo appreciated. 🙁
