InactiveI love Ariella so much but her behavior lately worries me a lot. She’s been throwing tantrums if she doesn’t get what she wants. She gets very angry if I take something away from her and sometimes her anger scares me. She does get over it quickly especially if I try to distract her… Plus, she likes to pretend she’s “talking” in a very angry voice. I noticed that my in laws (who sit with her during the day) laugh at it so maybe that is the reason she finds it amusing? I don’t understand where all the anger is coming from? She is a very sweet, loving girl who is very independent. Of course I’m thinking the worst and I’m afraid that it’s a red flag. Ugh…Is she getting into the terrible two stage too soon? She’s been on the early side with everything else…I hope it’s just a phase and will pass soon.

InactiveHA! This takes me back! We are over this with Dylan and Carter is probably going to start this phase soon, but I was certain that my child was emotionally disturbed with how crazy the melt down could get. It was VERY scary, kicking the bedroom door, screaming, hitting, kicking, I was afraid he was going to hurt himself or someone else. It turned out to be a phase, and when he had a lot more language, it was virtually over. He can still be a 4 year old and be fresh, but nothing like the tantrums were when he was younger.
I voting for a phase. It is a tough one, but I can at least tell you Dylan is one of the sweetest 4 year olds I know….Hang in there! HOw are you feeling? How many weeks now?October 31, 2007 at 5:58 pm #44829Anonymous
InactiveAnn Marie, thanks for your reply. I, too, hope it’s just a stage and when she’s able to communicate her wants and needs better, she’ll calm down. I don’t know if you remember but I was diagnosed with placenta previa. The placenta has moved up (thank G-d) and is not longer covering the cervix but I’m still bleeding from time to time. In fact, DH and I spent last Friday night in a hospital b/c I passed a huge blood clot (the size of a golf ball) but luckily everything is fine and they were able to detect the baby’s heart beat. This pregnancy keeps me on edge every day. This, too, shall pass. Thanks for asking how I’m feeling. You gave me one more opportunity to complain

InactiveIt’s reassuring to hear that I am not the only one who is sometimes frightened and concerned about my chiild’s anger. Myles has a ferocious temper, and talk about early, it started at 7 months with him! There have been times that I’ve worried he may be autistic or something horrible like that because he has these fits of rage that seem so intense for such a little person. I finally started putting him in little “baby timeouts” when he was only a little over a yr. old and that seemed to help. I’d put him in his pack and play and walk away for a minute or two. Then I’d go back and pick him up and if he stopped screaming it was done, but if he continued to scream he went back in for another minute or two. This really helped and it still does.
I truly believe it’s at least partially genetic. Some kids just have shorter tempers. My girls were so compliant and easy going as toddlers. Sure they had tantrums from time to time, but they short lived and few and far between. Myles is another story!
Even thought it’s probably inborn I’m confident that it’s something that can be tempered and I am seeing that the more I give him the message that his fits get him nowhere, the better it gets. His increasing ability to communicate helps as well, but still he will probably always be more short tempered and prone to anger than his sisters.I’m glad to hear that your doing ok. I didn’t know the placenta could move up once it was attached.October 31, 2007 at 8:37 pm #44833Anonymous
InactiveAlex was the happiest, most easy going baby, but now she has some pretty outrageous temper tantrums. She has actually hurt herself because she’s thrown herself down to the floor so hard. I remember Kaelyn doing some of this as well, so I’m hoping that it’s just a phase.

InactiveI hear ya!! Sarah has started to express her little temper too! It’s not toooooo outrageous at this point, but she seems to do it more for me than anyone else. She doesn’t even throw fits for DH.
Go figure. Her pediatrician asked me at her 15 month check up if she was throwing tantrums yet. At that point I said no. He told me that little girls show signs of the “terrible twos” before boys do so not to be surprised if I started to see some behaviors sooner than later. Hopefully it is just a phase for all of us. I have heard that the best thing is to “ignore” the tantrum and walk away but sometimes that is not always easy.
Are you going to find out the gender fo the new baby? I am really glad to hear that the placenta moved away from the cervix and I hope the bleeding subsides soon. I know that has to be scary!

InactiveYep, we (Taylor) has been throwing horrible temper tantrums as well! I really think/hope it is an age thing, and especially since she is very speech delayed she cannot say/express what she wants it is really frustrating to her, and me as well! I’m hoping once she can communicate better these tantrums won’t be so bad. I think I mentally blocked out Alexis’s tantrums at this age, but DH says Alexis was just as bad, just not as loud.

InactiveChristine, the dr explained to me that if the fertilized egg implants low, the placenta will be low too. Detected early in pregnancy, the prognosis is excellent (most of the time it moves up as the baby grows). When I was pregnant with Ariella, the placenta was very high from the very beginning so it was never an issue. To answer your question, yes, it does move up (that’s what they want, actually).
Amy, we wanted to find out what we’re having but with all the issues I’ve been having with this pregnancy, we just want a healthy baby. I might give in eventually and find out. The curiousity is just killing me.November 1, 2007 at 10:18 am #44848Anonymous
InactiveGlad you are feeling better!!! How many weeks are you now?

InactiveOh my son Ben used to throw the worst tantrums at that age!! Well, he still can, but now that he can communicate with words better, they are less worrisome! When he was little, he would get so mad at a toy for instance, if it he couldn’t get it to do exactly what he wanted it to do, then he would bang it into his head! He was a huge head banger – it got scary at times! If he would throw a tantrum he would sit against the wall and bang his head backwards against it while screaming/crying or bang his head against the floor. My mother-in-law once asked me if I should put a helmet on him! I never knew what would set him off. I think a large part of it was his inability to communicate his feelings, so that is how he released them. Now that he’s older, he just has the typical terrible-twos tantrums (I want that, I don’t want that, etc.) and he’s an over-all sweet and loving boy! (No more head banging, thank goodness!)
I bet it is just a phase she is going through, and as she learns more words and how to communicate better, it will get easier. Just try not to give her too much positive attention for the behaviour – or maybe encourage the in-laws not too (I know, sounds easier than it is!).

InactiveAnn Marie, I’m 19 weeks.
Sherri, the in laws are pretty tough with her especially when she throws a tantrum or hits. They just laugh when she starts “talking” in an angry voice like she’s upset and is yelling at you but with “words” (in her own language). She’s also very demanding (she screams “give!!” when she wants something). At least it helps that she’s pointing at what she wants. That makes it easier to understand (and most of the time it’s the things she cannot have, of course).November 1, 2007 at 6:36 pm #44884Anonymous
InactiveAh, so glad I’m not alone. It has gotten so bad with Justice that I am at the point of not wanting to take him anywhere anymore.

InactiveAlana has been tantruming of a couple of months now. Full on throws herself on the ground, arches her back and screams. I just walk away until the angry screaming and crying is over. Then when she settles I go back and reassure her that everythings OK. My friends reassure me that it really isn’t the terrible twos at all….it is the terrible second year! Funnily enough there are no tantrums at all on her three days at daycare…they just think she is the “golden child”!
I also had a low lying placenta with Alana and it moved up by 32 weeks. They noticed that I had a fibroid high in my uterus which is probably why the egg implanted low. I hope that the bleeding stops. Is the baby moving? I think thats one of the things I would miss most. I would love to have another baby, but DH is definately no. I’m thinking of writing him a letter entitled 101 reasons to have two children. If anyone has any suggestions to help me get to 101 let me know! -
